Click open once, again, then hold it a third time. Eventually the windows should open.

Does not have a replacable battery....it is recharged in the ignition....a standard battery WILL LEAK/FAIL, a rechargeable battery must be used.
The window features are PROGRAMMED into the car, not the KEY.

Sorry, but incorrect on the recharge thing. I cracked one of my Keys open, there is no recharge function. There are no wires or any inductance circuit to charge the battery... At least not in my key!

What year is your MINI? Supposedly only the 05 and 06s have a rechargeable battery.

Yup...2005+ MODEL YEAR, gen1cars....
100% sure on this...you can tell by the keystyle. With the change in the keystyle, the change in the charging happened.

I have an 06. I have just a key, not the radio only key, I think those are self recharging. The batt inside IS the rechargeable model, I was going to build a charger circuit for the key I tore open actually, just haven't gotten to it yet.

Well, if my key is supposed to be charging, why is my range getting shittier every month?

When the OP said "replaced battery", I think it meant the car battery.

RFW try this maybe your key needs to be intialized again.

Initialize remote key as follows:

1.) Close all doors

2.) Switch the ignition switch to KL-R (first turn), switch back off within 5 seconds and remove the key

3.) Within 30 seconds, press and hold the unlock button and at the same time, press and release the lock button (3) times. (Must be completed within 10 seconds)

4.) Release both buttons. The doors will lock/unlock to signal a successful initialization.

5.) If additional keys need to be initialized, repeat steps 3-4 within 30 seconds

6.) Switching the ignition to KL-R completes the initialization

The functions of the buttons are assignable..it was an option at the dealer when buying the car, they are "dealer programable" in the cars computer....
not sure what happen...some cars have this feature turned on, so do not...but the range has always been very short....
A few folks with the sunroof got into trouble with this option....the button gets held down in a purse or pocket...and everything opens....letting in rain....
in my experance, the range of the auto window opening has been so short since new, it is not really useful.....

My 06 did the same, nothing worked. You have to get it programmed :( I got mine done by Helix here in Philadelphia. I got, locks unlock at the engine turnoff, windows and sunroof open with the fob. I don't know of a list of options of what's available to program.

Hope this helps.

The key has a rechargeable battery that is charged when its in the ignition. If your "spare" hasn't been used in ages try using it for a couple of days to recharge the battery and see if it comes back to life.

Hey guys, old thread but does anybody have any definitive answer to the key opening the windows? With the summer coming, I NEED this feature. So far i've tried:

1) press button, release, then hold
2) press, release, press, release, hold
3) re-initalizing the key then tried #1 and 2 again

Any ideas??

That procedure is only to initialize the remote lock/unlock. If your car doesn't respond to remote window opening (post #2), the feature would need to be programmed into the car with a computer. A dealer can do it, or a shop with the necessary software. If you are tech savvy, you can also program it yourself using NCS Expert software (search the forum).
