I can find how to's of other years but it seems the 2013's are different. I attempted this with barely any daylight left last night and was wondering if someone has done it before.

Also will the aftermarket carbon fiber hood scoops for the 2011 and 2012 fit a 2013?

 

Do it with plenty of light, so you can see what's going on.

As I understand it, they are all the same, for all the years of the second generation MINIs. I'm not sure about the Countryman

I took mine off of the car and removed the plastic grill, it took about 10 minutes. I have driven it in all kinds of weather, the engine has stayed clean.

It helps if you have some non marring trim tools, to pry the push fasteners out

Is it that one clear plastic piece holding it into place? Looks like it has to be pinched then pulled. I assume you have to remove the whole grill to get the insert out.

 

There is a screw holding it at the top and a row of push fasteners along the bottom, those are the ones you have to pry up to get the scoop off. Mine has no heat shield, but later MINIs do. I imagine that the heat shield would have to be removed to get at the top screw.

I didn't have any clear plastic pieces, just black plastic pieces, so I'm not sure what you are looking at, maybe part of the heat shield? But yeah, the scoop has to come out to remove the grill.

This is the plastic scoop from my Feb '12 R56 MCS hatch.

I was nervous after hearing of other's disasters but IMO you have to be brutal and decisive.

It might help to show what could possibly be broken and where to pry for maximum effectiveness. The underbonnet plastic rivet (not shown but it fits the hole is in the middle of the part) needs to be removed first. This seems to be what most people forget. I used plastic trim removers and there was no damage to paintwork.

.... i dropped mine trying to put it back in and disappeared into the abyss, and i would like to replace it.

RealOEM calls it an expanding rivet.
I think I've also seen the same holding A-pillar speakers in place and those plastic-to-bodywork pieces outside the seats...

mine was a philips head screw.....wondering if anyone knew the screw size.

EDIT: FOUND IT!....Was hiding in my engine bay.

 

Yes Mcameron if you turn my last picture upside down as if you're putting it on your bonnet/hood that white plastic rivet in the middle goes through the hole you arrowed, spreads out and stops it being pulled upwards or stolen when the bonnet's closed.

The others around the plastic scoop push in directly from above.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I was trying to remove my scoop for the second time and noticed that the fastening screw under the hood got severely stripped when doing it last time.

Any pointers on how to go about getting that out?

Seems like alot to lay out for just one screw initially. But throw it in your toolbox, and see just how many time your end up using it. Worth the $$.

I'll look into a drill out set. Its just such a small screw not sure if that set will have something small enough.

you can just pull that plastic screw/rivet out with most anything, pry a driver under head and grab with needle nose. I keep a bunch of those spares as they are only good a few times.

I have some replacement screws on order that should be here tomorrow.

I'll attempt to pull out with needle nose first then go to drilling if that doesn't work, but as rckzy1 says it seems like it will just come out with a yank

 

forgot that little screw is plastic.

 

I'm almost embarrassed with how easy that came out needle nose did the trick. thanks guys

 

Removed old scoop and old clips etc. Should I thread new clips into the slots on the scoop then pop in? Finish with T25 screw?

That is the process. Mine doesnt have the T25screw anymore to secure it, but its not going anywhere.

 

The new clips made all the difference in the world. Locked down nicely. Thanks!
