A lot fo those photos look as if the shifter itself is shorter than stock. Is this true or did some of you just pull the shift boot up to make it look like that?

I'm completely broken-hearted. I didn't discover the group buy in time....I guess I'll just have to wait until he decides to do another one.

Doug Whalen is very cool!

He's donated a Shift Machine to us to raffle off at the Wolfe Island Canada MINI Meet.

Tickets will be $5, with proceeds going to a children's hospital.

I'm expecting delivery of my own (purchased at retail) Shift Machine this week. I can't wait. I heard 15 horse at the wheels!!!

This is my custom Whalen ****. I took these pictures in my studio. They were quickies. If I really took the time to do it right, you wouldn't see my reflection at all! My forthcoming IB MC is on it's way across the pond right now.

In Doug's Hand!

I got mine, I got mine, I got mine! I love it! You really can feel a difference in shifting.

Plus, it's gorgeous! Polished! A classic sports car look! And it feels nice in your hand, so smooth!

The Whalen is removable and the stock one is can be reinstalled (just smack the stock **** straight down on the shaft...do NOT twist it!).

The real question is that once you have an aftermarket **** on your MINI why would you EVER go back?!?!?!?!. Well I guess I could see this if you are selling the vehicle and wish to retain your ****

Yeah it comes off easily when you do it right, won't come off if you just pull on it. I often take it off while driving and think that it would make a good rescue device. To break a window, or smash someone in the face with it...

There is a spring loaded collar that you slide up. There are ball bearings that lock down that hold it in place when the collar is down.

Question about my whalen ****............

Got it today and put it on my B&M short shifter and I like the way it feels. However, it doesn't securely lock into place.......and with little effort I can pull it right off. I pulled the locking cylinder up, pushed the **** down all the way and released the lock. It seems like the locking cylinder should to go down further, but can't. I can also spin the **** around........is this the way it's supposed to be?

Try hitting it down on the top a bit. That some times helps if I do not get it right. Also make sure that it's middle slot aligns with the rod on the inside of the whalen

Doug & Dan.......thanks for your responses. I had to do some heavy hitting and at first it didn't work, but finally it did the trick. I knew the locking cylinder didn't have far to go because when I pushed down hard the **** wouldn't spin any more. It's locked in, doesn't spin any more......and I'm thrilled! How great that I was able to solve this problem so quickly. Thanks again!

Oh, an opportunity to post my pictures again!

My custom designed Whalen. Thanks once again Doug. It's still my favorite part of the car after a year!
