gps overkill?

Next on my list just a small goodie for the MCS

i would like to keep track of water temp and the other fun stuff you can get with obd2 gauges....

Originally I wanted to get the ultragauge em... which is the best bang for buck! 70 bucks slim... and mount it just about anywhere all for ~$70

however i stumbled across the Garmin Eco Route.... the interface looks much more modern... looks coolllllllllll.... costs a bit high because I would need to buy the ecoroute HD obd2 dongle... and I would like to get a craven mount... holy crap ~thats almost $300 bucks haha

id prefer not to use my iphone as a solution for obd2 gauges....

my only concern is... i already have the stock navi... would it look overkill with a garmin and the stock nav in the car...

I've got the Garmin/EcoRoute/CravenSpeed setup and use it often. Other functionality that I find useful is the accurate readout of mph - my MINI's speedo is rather optimistic. A minor annoyance is it sometimes 'forgets' to pair and has to go through its pairing process. I'd like to hear from anyone who's found a workaround for this. Now, if Garmin or some other manufacturer would come up with a similar product that adds radar detection - that would be a real winner!

When I did the BRP Tour this year, I had to do it in a loaner that had the MINI gps that mounts around the tach. I also had my stalwart Garmin 755 that I had to suction mount to the windshield as it had the routes and stops loaded in it. That definitely looked like some overkill!

mine used to do that too, but now I bought memory chip for it and make sure the internal battery is charged up(seems to make a diff even though its plugged into the car) and I havn't had much trouble

Thx JPMM! - I'll give the charging and chip a try - I'm assuming when you say 'chip' you are referring to the little SD card that goes into the GPS unit.

Looks interesting, but I'm concerned that 2004 MCS is on their incompatibility list, which probably means it applies to any 1st gen MINI: http://www8.garmin.com/services/ecor...ompatible.html (click on the "short list" link)
