Interior/Exterior WC50- ViS Racing Carbon Fibre Hood - Painted
WC50- ViS Racing Carbon Fibre Hood - Painted
So back in February I decided I was going to get a carbon fiber hood for my 2010 R56 JCW World Championship Edition.
So I went online and found a great deal over at Octane Motorsports for the ViS DTM style hood.
The only problem was that I didnt want to leave it in Carbon fiber since the car is a limited edition model.
So I found Black Widow airbrushing here in Toronto and Automacs in Oakville who helped me the custom paint job.
They matched the colour perfectly and did an amazing job with the stripes!
I took pictures of the whole process along the way.
Upside is that the engine gets tons of air and the hood is dramatically lighter!
Downside is that it isnt exactly like the stock hood so it doesnt fit perfectly and some of the chrome had to be "fitted" back on.
Hope you like it!

AWESOME! Just remember tommy that the installation was a *****! And it doesnt fit perfect!
I suggest you first find someone who will do the install for you, and get a quote before you buy the hood.
Don't go through ViS they wanted more than double what I paid!!
Get it from Octane Motorsports.

Hardly. The WC50 is cool because it is rare but, it is no different than say a normal JCW. Heck even the new GP doesn't do it for me. I can take a normal Cooper S and make it better and to my liking way better then what the factory can do. Hey it is your MINI and no matter what anyone says you can do whatever you want. I just don't understand why on a rare car like this. Wouldn't do that say on Konigsegg or mayb even a F40.

It's a Mini not a ferrari F40 or a Konigsegg. But I get your point to a certain extent.
Thats exactly why I painted the hood and had the stripes painted exactly as they were originally.
It is a limited edition agreed but only the exterior colour and the sig make it unique from any other mini, that's why I left those things the way they are.
I am going to be doing the engine soon because I was waiting to see what the GP would look like and I don't like it, so I'm gonna keep this one as an ANTI - GP or a GP killer!
Seems reasonable to me!
See now this was a nice comment unlike your previous one you actually explained your point of view better.

One last question, I see the hood shown with the carbon fiber intake. Does that come with the hood or would I need to swap over my JCW piece?
Thanks!
By the way, my MINI is white. I was thinking about leaving the "stripes" clear allowing the carbon to show through against the white. Would that be doable? Is the carbon weave good enough quality to leave it showing?

The Carbon is covered in a resin coating it can be driven around just like that.
About your other question, the stripes one, I wouldnt know you should ask paint experts. One issue you may want to look into. I can see the carbon fiber weave showing through the paint when the sun hits the car at the right angle. YOu may wanna make sure the white will cover the dark hood.
It goes in more on the sides close to the side scuttles.
It leaves a larger gap above the wheel well.
Around the headlights it isnt as tight as the orginal hood was which turns out to be good, more air for the turbo and the air filter!!

You crack me up!
I agree with you. But the car has the original JCW coilovers, so it's Full JCW!
I am gonna get 18 inch wheels then it'll look lower.
Plus we have snow here in the winter and yes I drive it in the snow because it's the only car I got for now!!
It's just a hood... Presumably the original could be bolted back on pretty easily.
