EDGE Insight CS/CTS monitors

Hello everyone,

I am trying to find some solutions to the already meek monitoring the MINI comes with, or without for that matter.

I have been snooping around on EDGE's website and found the Insight OBD monitoring systems. They plug into the OBD port and they display numerous readouts on the screen. EDGE states they cannot guarantee that some of the monitor-able items (such as boost, EGT, etc) can be displayed. The EDGE rep stated it would display anything a normal scanner would show (since this is just a over-glorified scan tool).

http://www.edgeproducts.com/categori...1996+and+Newer

1. Is anyone using this setup? Does it display the critical things like water temp, boost, etc?

2. If I perform a tune (ALTA AP) will this still provide the same data prior to tune? No point in buying it now if it doesn't work after a tune.

What are your thoughts?

I am not familiar with those packages from Edge but there are many solutions out there.

I currently run an Android Phone and use the Torque App and get great results from it for a lot less money that the cost of the Edge units.

If you use an iPhone the REV App is a very good one.

Torque is like $5.00 a bluetooth ODBII adapter can be had for less than $99. Not sure on the REV Pricing

If you can do with out the dial displays on the there is also the ScanGauge which many members here use and seem to like. And in most cases it displays everything anyone needs. Cost is around the $170 which is much less that the approx $300 of the cheaper edge unit.

Thank you for that info. The interesting part is that I can get the EDGE product at very inexpensive price. I am leaning towards this first and foremost as this is a permanent solution.

I love the idea of the Android portion of your reply. I have a RAZR that would support that. If your phone displays boost is it very accurate and is the phone very quick to show you changes? In other words is it laggy?

It would make a very nice looking permanent install and if you can gt it a a very reasonable price then go for it. But of course make sure you can return it if you dont like it.

It is very quick to respond. Not laggy at all in fact it is quicker than the scan gauge i tested.

Can make custom displays with the dials you want and are not limited to the manufactures whimsy on what they think you want.

i will see is i can get some video of it running in my car over the next few days and post it up.
