I was looking for instruction how to remove the 3rd black light to install my "blinker" that i just bought. From previou posts, I realized it is more difficult to remove the 3rd brake light on Sport Pkg. Cooper than the others. So, here is my thought. Is it posible to connect the blinker somewhere else? Meaning, to find the 3rd brake light wires (green and yellow) somewhere else that is easier to access.Any comment on this?

Thank you in advance.
Le Nghia

P.S: Sorry for my English, still trying to learn how to write grammatically

I can't help with your light question, but your English is pretty good. Even better than most of the post's I've read. (A compliment is a compliment.)

Doug, I have looked around for this. Some says that it is very easy to remove from a "S", because of the tall spoiler, but the cooper's spoiler makes it very difficult to remove. I have not try your method yet, because I don't have the proper tool to do it. Hence, I found an alternative method by myself. What I intended to do is: remove the rubber tube that connected to the rear door. Cut my the wires from there, connect to longer wires, and run the wires into the side panel in the rear on the left. Then install my blinker unit from there. I'll will post on how-to with pictures soon over the weekend, and hope it will help some sprt cooper that want to do this project. Motor on

Elbee, thank you for your generous compliment.

One of our local club members tried this and we basically conceded that it's not possible on a cooper w/spoiler. The only option is to find another place to cut the wires, but did not find a solution as to where. An alternative would be to remove the spoiler, but it probably isn't worth the time/energy.

Movieman, when you open the boot, on top you'll see a plastic tube that connected from the roof to the boot. Gently twist and pull off both ends. From the boot side, you’ll see two groups of wires divided, and wrap in a black fabric tape. Gently remove some of the tape. Note: One group is for the windshield wiper, which has a plastic tube. Try to remove some of the tape from the other group. There you’ll see a green and big brown wire. Hope this help somewhat.

Here is a pic that I borrowed from Madison MINI Group and edited.

But where did you actually put the blinker?

I ran into another problem. I found the wires for the light. Oddly, the two wires were green and black with yellow stripe, which was different from the Mini Madison Group's how to (green and brown). I connect the wires to the blinker unit. When I applied the brake, the 3rd light went off but did not blink. Was the voltage too low or did I do something wrong?

Thanks,
Nghia

FYI: I contacted the seller, he said that the blinker might be defected. He'll ship a new one, hope this will work out. Cross my fingers.

Movieman, what I did was running the wires through the tube and into the roof's cavity. What you want to do is to get access to the top of the roof cushion. Peel off the rubber that prevent water getting in. Reach you hand inside roof and pull the wires out. Now you just run the wires inside that rubber cushion to the side panel. Yeah it's somewhat complicated to do or explain, but if you have more question feel free to ask. I'll try my best. GL
