Seat Swap

Not sure this qualifies as a mod or not...

for all you single drivers... have you or have you thought about swapping the front seats like you would rotate your tires for better wear? I realize the lumbar and seat tilt features would get move around, but if it's all part of the seat, and all you're doing to lifting 4 bolts out and putting 4 bolts back in... could it work?

I'd like to give my driver's left side bolster a break from the wear it's getting.

thanks!

Silly, but possible. The only problems I foresee would be:
- the reversed seat controls could interfer with the center console
- the seats may not be perpendicular so swapping side may alter rotation position
- the female seatbeat recepticle; is that independant of the seat frame?

Really, it's something that I think people are being a little OCD on.

Not sure if the R56 seats are the same, but the R53 seats have airbags in them. It would NOT be a good idea to swap seats if they have airbags.

anything is possible, i got rid of my leatherette's last year due to wear and tear and they were so uncomfortable. I put in 04 subaru STI's they fit me perfectly. just a few mods on them and all the electronics were put on them. Airbag sensor, seat warmers and airbags.

The seats are clearly left and right -- not swappable. Look at the mounting points.

+1 on doing a 4 bolt swap not going to happen.

But it may be possible to swap the foam parts around by taking the whole seat apart.

I hadnt even looked yet. But thanks for all the feedback. and I forgot completely about the airbags.

Oh well. I'll live with the wearing bolster.

I was thinking you were going to be swapping for some aftermarket seats. These leatherette sport seats are uncomfortable as hell. I need to get new ones.

for the r53 and r56 theres some kind of seat forward tilt lever that would be on the wrong side, making it awkward to get to the back. i think seat covers or some sort of leather treatment stuff may be your best bet

at first i thought you wanted to change seats, but yeah, all the mechanism cannot be moved around. just get aftermarket.

consider that the passenger seat contains a weight sensor for the smart airbag system and the driver's seat does not.

maybe go to a salvage yard and get a seat out of a wreck. I did that when I had my civic. Yes many seats are directional so no rotation of seats will be done.
