Interior/Exterior Help getting cable through firewall
I've finally collected all the pieces for my gauge install. The SPA gauge has two 4 pin connectors that I need to fish through the firewall. Those of you that have installed boost gauges and other gauges I need some advice:
Is the best place to go through the thick rubber piece above the pedals and behind the brake vacuum reservoir? Do you think I can fit the ~1/4 inch connectors through here?
BTW, here's what I'm installing: SPA Dual oil pressure/oil temp gauge, autometer boost gauge, ALTA gauge pod, Intercomp lap timer. I'm tapping a hole in the oil filter canister for the temp gauge. I ordered a fitting from BMP to go where the oil pressure switch is, I'll run a braided hose up a foot or so from that and remote mount the pressure gauge sensor on another fitting. I'll take pics as I go and try to create a some semblance of an install FAQ.
Thanks!
Mark

The spot you're talking about is probably the easiest place to get through the firewall. 1/4" connectors should be able to be worked through it, though you'll have to make a sizable cut to do it. You can always reseal it with silicon when you're done.
Thanks, I think that was the last piece of information I needed!
I took off the top of the dash yesterday to look at everything, it was amazing how easily it came off. It's also amazing how much structure there is underneath the dash.
The SPA gauge has its own dimming system so I'll power it off the same fuse I'm using for the V-1 radar detector. I'll tap the boost gauge light to the lights for the tach.
I digress, thanks again.

That big grommetwill have no problem with room for the connectors/cables going through it. It has a rather thin 'membrane' around the cable harness that can easily cut to pass wires though. My trick is to use a piece of coathanger or welding wire with a point sharpened on one end. Poke this through the grommet membrane, tape the cable that you want to pass through the grommet to the wire, and withdraw the wire, pulling the cable with it through the grommet. This makes the grommet rubber 'self seal' around whatever you are passing through it.
