What up,
i am looking into getting a nitrous system for my car (M7 venom most likely), and just wanted to know what i could do with the bottle? The only pictures ive seen showed the bottle in the trunk eating up virtually all the trunk space (i know theres not much to begin with... ).

I wanted to know if anyone has done some other installs of nitrous bottles and was willing to share ideas, photos, whatever.

thanks in advance,

Peter

Behind the driver's seat. And don't forget the breathing mask or nasal canula accessory for "bench" racing.

Must have gassed myself.

Nitrous is nothing to mess with. If you are asking where to install your bottle, then maybe you shouldn't be messing with it either. Nitrous is not to be messed with my the weekend driver. Obviously you are not experienced with Nitrous so don't even bother.

I know this was meant as a joke but breathing the nitrous from a nitrous bottle will most likely result in serious injury. Non medical grade nitrous contains sulphur dioxide which your body wont be happy to have in it. It also possible (but unlikely?) for the dealership to verify the presence of it in your CC if you blew your engine, tried to remove the nitrous system and warranty it.

Iinstall your system somewhere you wont mind drilling a hole in the floor for the required blowdown tube, unless the mini specific kits have some way to avoid drilling.

remove your spare tire, and make a custom bracket for the bottle there. So you can lift your mat in the boot and turn on your nos (release the gas, not hit the button back there)

Don't you think you may have gone a bit overboard here? After all, the guy is asking for information, meaning he's trying to learn something before he messes with it. Everyone on this forum was inexperienced with nitrous at one time or another....even you! That didn't stop them from learning the proper way to go about it, did it?

A word of warning would be acceptable....a "don't even go there" is a bit harsh.

Everyone,
Please take the time to answer the initial author's question in the hope of educating him. Its perfectly ok to say "this can be dangerous so here is what you need to watch out for" but do it with respect. Share the knowledge don't berate people with yours. If this gets back on track then the mods will keep it unlocked.

Thanks

Mark

It depends on what size bottle you want, what your using it for, how often you use it, and how many laws you want to break or stay within. I'll start with this one ( to end all arguments before they begin lets assume your only using it for drag at the track and its legal to do so in your state) If you transport the bottle in a non-DOT approved carrier (i.e. something you created on your own not the one the kit came with) you get pulled over you can get fined for illegally transporting hazardous materials, not to mention if your speeding, if you have it hooked up, etc etc etc.( some cops wont bust you for this if your transporting less than like 30 canisters but you never know) So one thing to take into consideration is the legal aspect of transportation.(not use). So what I'm thinking about doing is put cotter pins( the pin with the eyehole and clamp) instead of bolts that way the entire bottle rig can be removed for daily use and reinstalled quickly and easily for use and still comply with transpo laws.

you can also move to smaller bottles Venom has bottles that can fit in glove box, under dash etc, but these are much smaller but depending on your use it may be what you need.

If you have big bucks I'm sure you can find someone to custom make you one that fits anywhere in your MINI and look like some stock object.

Depending on the size of the bottle you have a few choices. You can stand it up in between the rear seats right in front of the seat bottom similar to what MAXMINI did. You can fashion some brackets and mount it directly in front of either front seat, good idea if you use it on the street b/c if you get pulled over you can shut the bottle (remote bottle opener can accomplish this as well). If you are running sneaky pete's (the skinny nitrous bottles) you can might be able to get away with hiding them toward the middle-bottom of the B and C pillars.

if the bottle and lines are hidden, how is the cop going to know you have the bottle?

One good spot, If you can find cylinders that no more that 3 inches in diameter is underneath the passenger seat, in the cavity that was made to house parts of the NAV systems. Other Mini owners use this space to place a low profile subwoofer.

I'm working with the same problem right now. (where to hide the bottle) the closest solution i've come up with is to run a series of sneaky petes in the boot, but it would involve 6 remote bottle openers. that's bordering on impractical though, but we'll see.

I was thinking of installing under the seat (where the nav system normally sits) but in the long run, it too would be impractical since it would neccesitate additional plumbing bypassing the remote bottle opener, to refill the bottle (unless you dont mind removing the seats everytime you need to refil)

and lastly, as far as kramseib's comment, it only shows he didn't do his/ her research. as the VCN-1000 is a computer controlled system that automatically detects lean/ rich conditions before delivering the spray (read. no button to push) (read also, monkey-proof) gone are the days of engine detonation due to poor monitoring. the regular VCN-1000 is an entry level nitrous system. the VCN-1000 for MINI cooper/ cooper s developed by M7 & Venom for our cars is a model speciffic unit tuned to the needs of the engine, (so as not to over chi the engine. sorry asian humor) or to cut the N2O rpematurely. I did my research. before I saw the M7 VCN, unit I was looking at a time released unit from NOS/Holley. but it wasn't speciffic (the programming) to our cars but to the Dodge Neon. and there was a known detonation problem. (2 brits blew up their head gaskets experimenting) an aussie succeeded with direct port nitrous, but he did the old fashioned way (read, monitor, monitor, monitor, squirt, monitor)

all in all I think you're safe with the VCN. now if you could only find a place for the bottle... Oh yeah one way I ruled out might work for you. Mount it prominently on an pillar, but paint it red and place the ABC unversal fire extinguisher sticker on it an a dummy handle/ valve. (like microsoft security, hide in plain sight )

You could remote mount the bottles on the side of the boot, where those 2 little compartments are. You could then leave the bottle valves just behind the door, so you can manually open them.

I'd keep the bottle as far away from you as possible just incase of a failure.

what sort of failure?
oh yeah, allow for some room for a bottle warmer.

Nitrous bottles have whats called a burst disc to prevent the buildup of pressure inside the bottle (and catastrophic failture of the bottle). Its works like a fusable link... it ruptures/fails at a set pressure, and the gas evacuates the bottle.

Usually you install nitrous in a trunk. There are a few types of cars that dont have trunks (hatchbacks/SUVs/pickups) and require a blowdown tube. Its just a tube that directs the gas that escapes from the burst disc's hole OUT of the car. This is very very important!

If you wanted to run 6 small bottles ala fast and the the furious, you'd need one remote bottle cracker and a manifold that connected all the bottles. Then you'd have one source and the pressure could equalize throughout all 6 bottles.

I've seen full sized bottles mounted in dufflebags. Pretty stealth if you dont mind losing the space. Thats how we mounted my friends subs in his Durango.

Good Idea mac, duffle bag. could even cover the top with dummy gym clothes.

oh yeah the reason for the 6 remote bottle openers and not the manifold was that the bottles were in 6 different places. well actually I could get away with 4 remote bottle openers. the purge valve/ blowdown tube were to be plumbed to the side markers, but I was leery of cutting into the body more than neccesary.

about your psi question, you will get best response between 800-1100psi.
Anything lower will obviously turn your naaaws power lower. anything higher,
the bottle safety valve may release.

You can use nos in those little bottles, but remember that a 10lbs
bottle will only last about 3 min wide open. Meaning, usable pressure
is only about 1.5min-2min as the last 1min or so, the bottle pressure is
too low to do anything for ya (less than 600psi, its like just noise and no
punch).

I would suggest minimum 10lbs and try getting a 20lbs for your normal
nos addiction.

Depending if you use the back seat. You can core out the foam on the seat back hinge it or have it pull off, and line some small bottles in there.
