Interior/Exterior Carbon Fiber Mirror Caps JCW
Carbon Fiber Mirror Caps JCW
Since the day I got my MCCSa I have wanted the Carbon Fiber Mirror Caps to match my CF Bonnet Scoop, but never wanted to pay the 600++ bucks to get the mirrors as I thought it was just too much money.
While surfing around EBay, I searched some that were cheaper, that was the problem..."cheaper". I didn't want to sacrifice quality and wanted them to match the OEM CF Bonnet Scoop. I found ones that would stick on with 3M tape...cheap and not the real McCoy! I found the OEM for $600+.
Then I found a company apparently in Bangkok called KU Engineering. They had a listing for caps a LOT less money...half the price! They advertised NOT 3M stick ons, real CF, direct replacement of OEM cap, no need to "exchange" your caps. Made from CF found in high end Cars like Ferrari etc.
Since it was through EBay/paypal, I figured, what the heck, I'm protected if I never get the goods or send them back if they are not what was stated. So, I pulled the trigger...ordered them on a Saturday as Buy It Now, Wednesday afternoon my nice MINI parts delivery man (FEDEX) showed up at the door with a package...NEW CF Mirror Caps.
When I opened the package...WOW, to my amazement, beautiful quality, a real MINI cap with all the MINI logos, part #'s and ALL clips in tact. They were shinny smooth, matched my CF Bonnet Scoop EXACTLY. The CF was layed right over a MINI mirror cap and smoothed out with a perfect resin coating.
Didn't take long and they were on the car...when the sun hits them, it's like an extra layer of BLING!! Very impressive!!
Here is a link to the caps on eBay...available for Power Fold and NON power fold. And in Wet CF (shinny) or dry CF, I opted for the wet.

For those of you maybe looking for a CF diffuser for your R56, pretty nice

This seems to be a better solution to the OEM JCW CF mirror caps. The caps from MINI are very thin. That makes it difficult to get all the clips to click into place.
Looks like you have a win-win situation with these caps. Lower cost and a better fit.

Very nice, they look fantastic on Red. I too have seen those, if I where to go with any carbon accents I would definetely go with Ku's parts. They seem legitimate and look fantastic. I think it's also important to care for them properly, a great wax product or spray on detailer definetely helps to maintain that shine and clarity.
They are Carbon Skinned over a real MINI cap, NO weight savings, just aesthetic looks.
Yes, a good wax or polish will keep the shine.

They are absolutely awesome!! They look great in all the pictures and even better on the car in person. I put a nice coat of Prima products on them before installing and now I have this problem with walking by the car and rubbing them with my hands. They're silky smooth!!

I have to get some now!!!
thanks for the info!
Thanks for the info. I really like your mirrors and was considering ordering a pair until I saw all the choices on eBay and got confused. There are lots of very thin (.3mm) versions and one other vendor selling a full thickness version made by Autotecknic.
Ordering some, will be bringing them to the dealership with me in May =P
Just for clarity:
Is there a difference (besides non-powerfolding) between
1) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-M...ht_8746wt_1165
and
2) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-M...ht_8746wt_1165

After viewing this thread I bought the Autecknic mirrors (see my thread below). They appear to be the equal of the Ku Engineering mirrors for about a $100 less. They're carbon fiber over a hard plastic shell and were a perfect fit for my justa.
that looks great
But how does it hold up under tough climate condition over time? Will the color fade like those cheap knockoffs? I'll like to see a review of this 6 months down the line.
