Stripe Advice & Suggestions

Beep Beep!

So...I want to add white stripes to the hood of my BRG...the thicker ones that are set apart closer to the lights....not the ones that go up the center, up and over the MINI.

My first concern...I see BRGs with the white stripes, but they almost always have white roofs and like side mirrors. Mine doesn't have a white top or the white mirrors....would it look ridiculous to get the stripes? I absolutely won't be painting the top, but the mirrors could be doable.

Also...I've read a lot on here that the stripes are easy breezy to put on myself, then i read no no NO....must have it done professionally. I'm also concerned, my baby will fade around them, leaving what I see is called "ghost stripes". Is there a particular kind that won't leave marks should I choose to pull them off?

Your opinions/advice is much appreciated. I almost sound fanatical about it, but if not here, then where I ask you.....

Beep Beep! Over and Out Good Buddies!

They are easy to put on, done it and will do it again when the current ones need replaced. There are some good step by step w/picture instructions available. Just measure twice and cut once. Not the other way around. "I've cut it twice and it's still too short". Ghost stripes are unavoidable in most cases. My PS bonnet has them when the original stripes were removed. Sunlight is the culprit. They do make a good benchmark for replacement purposes. One thing to consider. They're not that expensive when self applied. If you don't like them after a few months, pull them off and be done with it. If you have them applied for a few extra hundred dollars as some have reported, then removing them would hurt a little worse.

Thank you much Where did you buy yours if you don't mind me asking Are they vinyl or???

Yes...would definitely hurt more if I sunk a lot of dough into the project only to rip them off shortly thereafter My boyfriend has told me we'll do up a photo in photoshop to see what she'll look like beforehand...just haven't got around to doing it yet. Maybe that should be my first start.

The Ghost stripe issue is more of a sun exposure issue than a stripe issue. If you regularly keep your car waxed with a UV protectant wax, it should minimize the ghosting. Also a clear bra over them can help also.

Whether or not you need professional installation Is a matter of experience and patience. Also, Some vinyl materials are easier to install than others. Some can be installed wet, which is massively more forgiving than dry installation.

As for the white on a BRG/B MINI, Mine is LY/W And I've got black wheels, and am about to put some Black CF Stripes on. Anyone who's seem my car in person has like it, even with the LY/W/B/Chrome thing going on.

But I'm hoping to narrow it down soon enough.

Well Moxie is parked in a garage when we're not out wheeling, but good call on the uv wax. I'm not sure if that's what my boyfriend put on her or not. As for the patience....my boyfriend will have to come to the rescue on that one too. Patience of a saint. Me? I've got so much energy...I run around like my hair is on fire most of the time Thanks for the advice on the wet install though...that sounds perfect.

Moxie D: What color is your roof? Seems black from the pic in your signature, but I'm just asking to be sure. Like you, I think I usually see white stripes on the BRG when the roof is white, but for whatever my humble opinion is worth, white bonnet stripes would look nice if you add something else white, like the mirrors, or maybe you could continue the bonnet stripes only on the boot of your MINI (in other words, do not put any stripes on your roof). I have seen some stripes done that way, and I always liked it. I was considering doing that for my Clubby.

And, like Agarwaen mentioned, using a good UV protectant/wax for your car and a clear bra over the stripes might be something to consider. There is a recent thread about clear bras and stripes up here somewhere. . .

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Moxie D: I forgot to mention: I have a clear bra over my stripes. The installer I use is excellent, and he uses only 3M Supershield, which has a UV protector. When I got my clear bra, he told me he would apply graphics, like the roof or stripes, for only $25. All I would have to do is order the graphics myself and bring them to him. If you are hesitant to install stripes yourself, you could probably ask a clear bra installer if they could install the stripes for you too, all at the same time.

And when you look into ordering the stripes, it is probably smart to look for a dealer that uses 3M products. (I think minimotoring graphics does). I had the 3M Supershield clear bra on a previous car and after 5 years in the South Florida sun/heat, it still looked good as new. I believe some stripes you can buy are cheap because they are not made from 3M material.

The top is brg, except of course for the black trim....The two sunroofs take up most of the roof real estate anyway, that's why i'd not bother painting it. The white sidemirrors...I like and can totally get behind. But your'e right...it'd look better with something else white other than just the stripes.

This is exactly the stuff I wanted to know. Awesome advice Thank you! I will definitely let you know how it goes!

http://www.aestheticreations.net/ They are listed under 'Vendors'. You also get a snazzy little dragon logo decal with your order. I found just the right place for it in the engine bay kida like a little tattoo.
