Rallye Lights & Bonnet Q

First post - exciting

First question, is there a 'best way' to mount spots in the lower grille? There are solid portions on either side and I would like to place some hella 500s there. I don't want to mount directly to the plastic as this isn't very stable -apparently.

Second question, mini cooper bonnet on an MCS. The sweet speed hole is blocked anyway, so will a normal cooper bonnet fit?

Thanks,
Robot

Edit: 2006 r56 MCS UK model.

As far as mounting lamps on the lower grill I don't know, but I,m going to try it this spring. I think the Hella's only weigh a little over a pound each, I,m going to mount Bosch lamps, same but different.
Have an idea for mounting, but it's got to be warmer before I go out to the garage to play.
I've seen small angle brackets that mount lamps to the upper grill, so it must be OK to some degree. Anyway, good luck.

Im only slightly confused.

Your in the second gen section...which is 07+

You say 06 which is first gen.

You say r56 which is second gen

If its a first gen (06 or prior) then mount away in the lower grill... you can do light bars with 2 or 4, or custom mount to the plasic like you were asking.

If its a second gen (07+), since you did say its an S, if you do mount in the lower grille they need to be as far to the sides as possible, so you dont block the airflow to the teeny-weeny intercooler behind them...

edit: since you also say the grille is blocked in the scoop, im guessing its indeed a turbo second gen car lol. Yeah you can put on a regular hood, BUT it still might get very hot and blister the paint. the scoop does help the heat expell

It was built in 2006 and it is an r56.

But yeah I wanted to mount them (x2) in front of the 'filled in' bits of the lower grill. I'm going to have a look this weekend, see if there is space to build a little brace behind for some support.

Oh gotcha. didnt think of build dates.

i think you can get away with some really large washers and rubber sandwiched on the grille.

Sorta like this guy did:

Thanks for the link. Looks like a pretty good easy fix, wonder if he had any problems with the lights moving or vibrating.

Round here we've got some pretty bad roads and that kinda stuff can get knocked loose quick, either way, may try this for a first step.

yeah definately how id try it too, though maybe a touch more to the sides of the grill where the plastic is solid. Theyd probably move just a bit, but whoknows... probably not very noticeable
