Okay, time for a rear diffuser discussion... come on in.
I've been searching the last week or so high and low for a rear diffuser. I have only come across one that I like.
After much searching, most of the useful info was right here on NAM. Does anyone have any links they've been saving just in case they one day wanted to order one? (I've got all sorts of Japanese links to parts we can't get here in the US)
This is the one I want but am unable to contact Mr. Hong. (excuse the two last pics, it was a package....lol)

I've seen the duell package, the Harmon setup, the Challenge and M7 is too race car for me. (not ricey, race car)
Though I do at least a dozen track days a year, this still is my daily driver.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark

Getting Japaneese parts for a European car into the US wont be easy but it can be done. There are a lot of importers of JDM (Japaneese Domestic Market) parts out there, though mostly for Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Subaru, BUT the overseas companys shiping the parts out of Japan MIGHT be able to help. The MINI performance market over there is not as scarce as one may think, and there is a lot of good stuff to be had. Sombody needs to start working with the BIG JDM importers to start carying a MINI lineup of parts, it might take a lot of work but the R50/52/53 market is starting to catch on to the younger croud in the US, so a company like Password JDM might buy into it.
Another thing that you could do is, take up fiberglass laying as a hobby and build your own. It really isn't that terribly hard it just takes paitents.

Thanks DicksG, I'll have to look into that....

You mean like when I couldn't find a spoiler I liked for my Corvette so I made this.

Or this one...

Or like when I couldn't find a spoiler for my mini so I made this one...

But then when I didn't like that one, I made this one...

Up close...

Yeah, I guess I could take it up as a hobby...lol.
I'm just messin' with ya bud. I may have to resort to making my own if I can't find the one I want. I REALLY like the one made by Mr. Hong in the first pic.
And I completely agree with you, there are a lot of "hidden" manufacturers for mini stuff, you just have to search.
Thanks for your suggestion, I'll check out JDM.

Is Mr. Hong from Japan? That is not a common name in Japan and in all honesty, given their alphabet, there is no way to pronounce/spell the word "Hong." (I'm Korean and studied the Japanese language for 12 years plus went abroad.) According to your first picture, the license plate had Korean lettering... perhaps its a Korean product?

I really like their diffuser and when they come out with their spoiler I will be buying their entire product line. Call them they have 3 different rear diffusers.

Actually that was my other choice. I sent them an email yesterday, we'll see what they have.
Thanks

Group 4 is also my current choice on diffusers, I realy like the look but I am also going the race ready look route. Kinda like a Challenge car R56 but adapted to a R53 and with a few twists.
Besides look cool... Nothing.
Joke.
Without getting into a bunch of tech talk, a diffuser changes the pressure under the car to make it "stick" to road better.
Oh hell, here's the technical explanation.
A diffuser, in an automotive context, is a shaped section of the car underbody which improves the car's aerodynamic properties by enhancing the transition between the high-velocity airflow underneath the car and the much slower freestream airflow of the ambient atmosphere. It works by providing a space for the underbody airflow to decelerate and expand so that it does not cause excessive flow separation and drag, by providing a degree of "wake infill". The diffuser itself accelerates the flow in front of it, which helps generate downforce.

I had the chance to look at their products up close and personal at MITM5.
Products look first class and when I talked with the owner, he quoted lap times enhancement. Rears diffuser picked up good down-force/traction and 1 to 1.5 seconds.
Good stuff, nicely made, not cheap.

Also I want this company's stuff.

That looks great but not aggressive enough. Hard to please me, hard to please.

That is the only one I have seen and saw it in person. But from what I understand from street to full race the rear diffuser sticks out farther out then the version before it.
Check out this photo set from scottab36 a member here. I have seen his car and it looks good and from what he says it works great as well.

His are from Group 4 Autosport http://www.group4autosport.com/
They were installing these at the MOTD last April/May.

I am almost a 100% positive that is the street version. From talking to them the full race is suppose to stick out about 4 to 5 inches.

Will check on both with Group 4
You are correct. Mark verified that pic was the track version (intermediate)
He was doublechecking some stuff but I've got one on order.

Hey Mark,
Sorry to bring up an old thread, but what did you end up getting for your rear diffuser? Care to share a few pics? It looks really amazing on your car. I've been wanting to get one for a while, but I don't have the JCW or aero kit, just a standard r56 bumper.
