boot handle

Does anyone have a write up on how to remove the boot handle? Or know how to do so?

Simply remove the screws and then disconnect the plug.

The only thing that concerned me when removing mine was the electrical connection. A firm pull will undo it, nothing special needed.

Thanks everyone I managed to get it off fine. The wiring was a little tricky didn't want to break it. I put some tape on it to make sure it didnt go inside the boot and I wouldnt have to take it all the way apart to get it out.

Nice, I'm going to remove my boot handle to wrap it soon, this thread was just what i was looking for! Hopefully shouldn't be too tough, but good idea with taping the wires down

What are you going to do it with? I suggest vinyl, if so I suggest the wet method. Very easy to do and with the curves on the boothandle makes it harder to get the vinyl right. Also a heat gun. Good luck hope to see some pics. I haven't been on here for a while now. I'll have to take some pics to show off some.

Swoosh sorry yet again for taking so long to get back to you. The weather down here has been pretty good lately. I know it's about 8 months later, but better late than never. To kinda give you a run down on what the weather in Southern Spain is; Rain during the winter no snow about November to end of December time. Jan-April still a little chilly out and rains every other day but off and on all day. So November to April rain. May starts getting a little warmer, about 70's-80's (F)and sunny. June to August it's prefect weather! 90's(F) and up. Sunset isn't until about 10-1030pm. August and September is pretty much the regular fall time. A little chilly out, jacket weather and late sunsets still and really nice weather. October is a toss up month. It's warm one day and chilly the next. I'd say if your going to make a trip down be sure to bring something to clean the bugs off during the spring/summer time. They are really bad and our windshield angle doesn't help out at all with them. When driving out with my friends, we have to stop every so often( 45 minutes) to clean our windshield off. I'll be gone probably by the time you make it down towards my way again. Getting out in May and shipping my car back to the States around April.

when replacing the boot handle make sure the gasket is put on properly and not kinked or crooked. I had a problem with the boot latch and after the dealer replaced the boot handle the boot opened by itself when it got wet because water (from rain or washing) seeped inside the handle and got the eletronics wet. Dealer had to take it off again and let it dry completely.they found the gaslet had been put on incorrectly thus allowing moisture inside.

Is there a diagram or pictures of this handle with location of garkets? I looked at the wiring connector, but I'm a bit unsure where it disconnects. Lastly how do you separate the two plastic pieces without breaking the clips....any tips appreciated!

What two plastic pieces are you talking about (post pics)? What is your goal?

It's been years since I took off the handle to install a rear camera on my R52, but I don't recall anything unusual or complicated. There are some diagrams of the handle here:
http://www.motoringfile.com/files/rear_camera.pdf
The parts catalog shows a gasket piece (item #14):
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...80&hg=41&fg=60

I don't remember the type of connector it uses, but like other connectors on the car, you just pull it off or there might be a catch or tab that you have to release while pulling.

Has anyone seen chrome door scoops for the rear door handles on the Clubman? Like the the ones being so for side doors?

This part, I want to detatch the electrical without breaking anything.....remove the yellow cover from the black back piece. I need to unstick the locking mechanism....

That connector will disconnect. Many connectors on the car have some kind of lock so they won't come loose from vibration. If it doesn't just pull apart, there will be a tab to push or pull to release it. You have to examine and look at how the parts fit together.

However, if your hatch locking mechanism is sticking, fiddling with the handle won't help. The handle has nothing more than an electric switch. The locking mechanism itself is inside the hatch door. You should be able to access it by pulling off the interior panel of the hatch.
