Interior/Exterior My V1 install w/extra mute button
My V1 install w/extra mute button
Thanks to all the prior posts on how to install a V1 to the R56. I just got my 2010 2 weeks ago and been working out how best to install it. For my first post, I just wanted to share some of the specifics I decided to do.
I basically followed the "how-to" on the basic install using a add-a-circuit, this part was pretty simple. I decided on a passenger side mount location behind the rear view mirror. Since I like having the remote display in view while driving the choices were limited unless I wanted to hack up something (which I didn't). I also couldn't find a suitable place where I can easily reach the mute button so I decide to add an additional one to the remote. I purchase a pre-made one from ebay, and then took apart the display.

I used the 2 holes on the circuit board to attach the 2 wires from the button I purchased (I cut off the telephone plug which was attached to the extra button).

Once the wires where soldered in, I closed up the remote and used the existing on the back of the display. There is a rubber piece there which I removed.
Here is the finished unit:

Once completed I then ran the wire from the hardwire unit up through the dashboard where I finally decided to mount the unit. I took off the knee board, the side covers to the middle console, the RPM gauge and the dashboard to do that. I have the wires to the display behind the dashboard piece and well as the wire for the remote mute, which come out from the underside of the RPM gauge.
I placed the button on the middle of the steering wheel housing (not on the piece that turns with the wheel). Now, I just need to reach on the middle of the steering wheel to mute the V1. After I did the install, I found the button was a bit too small for my finger, so I cut out a small piece of plastic from a old credit card and glued it on top. It works perfectly now.

I'm on the look out now for another dashboard piece I can get pretty inexpensively so I can dremel the display into it. I believe there will be enough room if just the circuit board and the cover is put in place.
Once again thanks to all the previous posters who shared their installs, and made the first part to hard wiring the V1 a breeze.
The mini's are great cars and I'm enjoying every minute driving it. The V1 has already saved my new found lead foot a few times

I did a Beltronics RX65 (woo estate sale!) install with the same remote mute button kit. A lot more bare bones since my RD lacks the cool arrows. Just a bogey light in my peripheral view. I used panel gaps to route the wires. No drilling.

Thanks to miclee15 for telling me where to find the wiring kits.

There is no need to hack into the remote display. All you have to do is use a normal phone spliter and add the extra mute button. That is what I did with the same button.
All you need is this http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
Use a normal phone line into the above adaptor and 1 line out to the remote display and plug the end from the switch into the other out.
Here is my install. Makes it real easy to mute. I have moved my remote display to above the key fob, in about the same place as the op, since I posted this.

All 3 mute buttons work too. On the V1, remote display, and shifter
