Interior/Exterior gearknob
To remove the stock gearknob, just pull up. HARD! Don't hit yourself in the face.
If you want to put on an aftermarket ****, you'll have to get some sort of adapter for the OEM shifter. Aftermarket shifters come threaded, with adapters for OEM *****.

I would suggest, wrapping the gear in a towel/cloth and then pull. Make sure your chin/face is not on top of the gear when you pull. And if you have a sun roof, you might want to open that too since it's your first time. You might come out swinging!
Put it in 2nd gear, grab the **** with both hands and pull up. It lets go all at once. And, yes you might want to open the sunroof if so equipped. Once it comes off you will realize how simple it is. And I replaced it with a Whalen Shift ****. That makes life a whole lot easier.
