Road dirt on R55 rear doors and windows

Now that I'm into winter driving with my new Blizzaks installed on my Clubman I'm getting way too much backspray/road dirt on the rear doors and windows. I'm thinking of adding rear mud guards and a spoiler to help with airflow and reduce the amount of spray thrown up by the rear wheels. Anyone had this problem? If I do the spoiler should I get the regular curved one or the square JCW one.

Yep, it's a R55 thing for sure. We have the spoiler on the back of our R55 and the barn doors get covered during inclement weather. Not really thinking mud flaps will help a lot either. It's basically called the station wagon effect. All the dead air just kinda collects behind the low pressure are of the car. If you find anything that does work, we'd all like ot know other than that just plan on washing the back of the car...a lot!

all of my square backed vehicle have been like this. Pick up Truck with a cap, Subaru Outback wagon, BMW 525 Wagon, Etc.

As maacodale said iyt has to do with the low pressure behind the vehicle that causes this and the only real way to have it go away is to have a spoiler that forces air down the back of the car. Unfortunately there is not a spolier that is designed that way for this car, and even if there was the roof overhang on the rear would defeat much of that action.

Hi Coop in TC,
It's TorchMini here (and in your email). I agree with all here- lots of clean and polish for the back end. Mine's dirty this time of year by the time I'm home from the power wash. Let's get our HC clubmans together some sunny day and take a photo. I was the only Clubman up here for a few months. I know of 3 others in Traverse City now.

On a Cooper/Cooper S, I'm pretty sure the spoiler has been found to make it worse.

For my R56 MCS, the problem diminished considerably when I changed from OEM brake pads to Carbotech 1521 Bobcats. It was amazing to me that all that dirt was from the brake pads.
