Gauge Face Plates Project

Hi Everyone. I just wanted to start a thread to show my progress for a little project I'm getting ready to under take. Being a college student, and a MINI enthusiast, it's hard to come up with funds for mods. One of them being a custom gauge face plate. I'm going to be designing my own and trying to find a way to have them printed/cut and installed.

I would just like to ask if anyone can point me towards the direction of removing and replacing the gauge faces. And if anyone have any dimensions on the gauge. Because my MINI is a daily driver, I can't have the gauge faces removed for too long. Thanks!

At the end, I want to create several custom gauge plate faces and have other NAMer's pitch in ideas and etc, and whoever wants to partake in this project can maybe take something away from this.

This is a custom one for R56 MINIs from Duell, but I'd like to create something along the lines of this for a R53.

Yeah, I already have the entire suite (Advertisement major).

I also intern at a promotions and branding firm, so I have access to hundreds of vendors who can do custom printing and dye cutting.

The only thing I need is the dimensions of the gauges and how thick these faces are suppose to be. If anyone has a template or measurements, please chime in.

If not, I'd have to wait till my vacation to pry mines out and measure it and etc.

the thing is most people jsut to overlays, not actual new faces. It would be interesting to see if you can actually remove the old faces.
I used to have the creative suite :( (was a graphics design 'intern' over the summer [im just really good with computers, and the guy wanted the help])
but personally I'm a Chemical Engineering/ Pre-Med student.

Ah, interesting. So thickness shouldn't be a big issue then, maybe even a film. Now I just need dimensions.

Too bad there's no MINI gauge templates.

You can look into these: http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...uge_faces.html

I'm interested in seeing if I can get the R56 tach to work on the R53. The guys I spoke with at Duell told me the R53 version doesn't have enough room for them to make it red-line higher. For the R56 version they install the gauge, then reinstall the meter at a different angle for the gauges that go up to 10k.
