"Pull" pin things?

I cant find a thread or post to answer my question...

I have been seeing pictures of Mini's with a "Pull loop thingy". Located on the front passenger bumper grill.

Why? Looks? or Comedy?

I'm just curious why they are so popular.

Thanks!

That is the tow hook, used to tow the car after an accident or if the car was disabled. Race cars have them exposed so that a wreck can quickly be removed. People like the race car look and thus put tow hooks on their own cars. It tends to add an aggressive look.

I have the factory tow hook mounted all of the time. You can buy fancier ones from various vendors.

Your tool kit has one, I painted mine red. Or you can buy a fancier one from most all MINI aftermarket dealers

Guess if I was worried about my car breaking down I'd have it in there.

Most folks add the "PULL TO INFLATE" decal above the tow point, but I decided to be different.

Mine says:

"PULL TO RELEASE TRUNK MONKEY"

Why do they only put them in the front? isn't there a tow hook place in the back too?

Easy Dave. Most of the time you are only going to need to be pulled by the front. Especially quickly. You'd probably only need to be pulled out by the rear if you were ever stuck in snow or in a ditch. Then you could just put the OEM tow hook on. Plus with the curve of the rear bumper, most people would fear scratches keeping an aftermarket Tow hook on all the time. You could still do it though. I've seen some pictures of peep who keep a tow hook on the rear as well as the front/
