NO more plasti-dip

About 7 months ago I did the plasti-dip thing, getting rid of some of the chrome on my CR/B mini. I did it that way because it is completly reversable. The plasti-dip looks pretty good for a while then it starts to get chips and wax stains which wont come out.
So this weekend I decided to permantly paint the grill surround and side scuttles black and the tail light trim and gas cap to match the body color (already done headlight rings in body color)

I'm more than happy with the results

I scuffed the parts with scotch brite and used ahesion promoter before applying the final coat. The body color paint came from Minspeed and the black was Dupli-color acrylic enamel gloss black form Advance autoparts.

OOOOPPPS, sorry no pics yet

That's next on my list. I plasti-dipped everything, but I figured it was just temporary until I had money for the good paint or vinyl. I'm interested to see some pics of the paint you used and how well it matches your car.

How many cans did you need to do everything?

I only bought 1 can of body color, 1 can of adhesion promoter, and 1 can of gloss black, and I still have plenty of each left.

the chili red is a perfect match really can tell it from the factory paint.

I'll take some pic later this week and post them.

You'd have to find some really REALLY good spray paint for it not to chip. Even the factory paint chips.

I went down this road before with my Jeep. It had chrome bezels much like our mini's bezels. Within a year, the spray paint was chipped (I even took sandpaper to it). At least with plasti-dip, you can spray another coat on with little more than just washing it first. When you sell the car, you can peel it all off (I hope) and it will look good as new.

Painting it causes more work and doesn't last as long as plasti-dip.

OK I finally figured out how to get the pics on the forumn. This the only place I have trouble posting pics

The red inset on the side scuttle is done in vinyl... a little brain storm I had

Looks very good, I'm debating whether or not the astro black paint would really make that much of a difference from Plasti-Dip.

I'd like to see some more pics of the whole car too.

One of the reasons that I removed the plasti-dip was wax residue could not be easily removed and I considered it a temporary thing from the start, the painted parts look many times better anyway.

ALSO painted the wheels yesterday with VHT epoxy gloss black paint, that was lots of work.

Here is the finished product:

Very nice, I as well did the PlastiDip route just as a temp thing to see if I really like the al blacked out. When the money is in the bank I'm gonna get everything donw in AB. Dtsoccer has his done like that and I got to see it last week and came to realize it has to be more perminant. But on a good not the plastidip does match the unpainted wheel arches rather well. and you car looks great.

Wow! Love the dechromed look on the headlights. I think I still want black to accent my PW clubman though. Already got the black wheels/roof/stripes, I want as much black accents as possible!
