My own GP spoiler... the process begins.

Okay, I'd really like to have a GP style spoiler. I don't particularily like the GP one but I sure would like to have something similiar.

Since I haven't been able to find one, I guess I'll have to make one myself.

So I ordered an R55 clubman JCW spoiler and the mods begin.

Here's my start.

Taping the wing to the car to get an idea...

Molding the ends.... used great foam stuff to make the ends.

This week I'll shave the ends and wrap them in fiberglass and the hard part begins...

Interesting to watch. Did you form surf boards in your younger years.

LOL, no, no surfboards...

Being in the bodyshop business, there better be some advantages.....

Here's a few spoilers I made when I had a corvette.

So we'll see how this turns out. After buying the spoiler for 400 bucks, it's hard to start cutting it up "to see if I can make it work"

No way... it'll take me weeks working on it a few hours every day or so.

Very interesting. I'm a big fan of the Challange wing. It's on my list of things that need to be ordered but don't have the funds right now. I can't wait to see this end product.

An update....

Here's an update with some pics...

Time to mold the bottom of the wing by placing tinfoil and plastic on the car.

Fiberglassing the bottom of the wing.

Both sides now have bottoms...

Trim the ends.

Had to cut the wing in half and remove a small amount..

And again, and again...

Epoxy the wing back together...

putty time...

I know it's crooked, just mounted it to see what it would look like.

I sanded it down today and got 3-4 coats of putty on it. I need to smooth it out and try to prime it this week.

I hope that paper and tape was secure, you put that on your car for on-car modeling. Your a brave man.

Looks like it is going to be a fine piece of work.

Looks like it may be a little longer. I pretty well got the spoiler mounted to the lower spoiler and finished it in primer.... just had to do some final sanding.

That was until I completely ground the sides off. They were too bulgy for me so I'm changing the shapes of the side pieces. I REALLY like the look of it now.

I'm in the middle of refiberglassing the ends so I'll post pics later.

Almost done....

Had to redo the spoiler several times... too wide, too curvy, too fat, too blah, blah, blah....

Anyway, it's about ready for it's final glaze before I paint it... thought I would show some pics.

Still not 100% sure about whether I like it or not but she's almost done.

I'll paost more pics when it's done.

Thanks guys, we'll see how it turns out when it's done and painted... (black, btw)

Like I said, I'm still undecided whether I even like the damn thing...

Sure, have before.... I took a set of dually fenders off a chevy truck, put them on a Nissan Pathfinder and stretched a fiber resin based cloth from the back edge of the front door to the rear taillight.

Fiberglassed it in, it actually looked cool... kind of like a testerossa body.
