How have the lights held up after this mod?

Since you have taken apart the light. Do you think its possible to buy a pair of halogens and convert them to xenon using the same oem xenon ballast that is on my car?

I need a new xenon pass. side w/ washer but would rather buy a halogen set and convert it to xenons rather than buying one headlight. ($350 vs. $550)

It's a great look 07BPB and gives me the idea to do the same to my 06/R50 pure silver!!

I need some help. I am doing this to the 2002 halogens. I am stuck. I am trying to release the outside reflector but it doesn't seem to want to come out.

Here is what I am talking about:

My headlight really got hacked up. It wasn't till half way I figured out I could pry it open with my hands after I got it started. Sorta warped my lens. Hope it is okay.

I'm doing a TSX retro fit but need help on how to release this lens. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Opinions - i have a 06 Pure Silver/Black top Justa and was thinking of black inside with the tip of the main light bulb cover red (the little bit in front of the bulb).

I've also seen people use the oven to carefuly heat the entire thing - comments?

bmwboyee: Can't help with the pre-facelift lights sorry. Different design so I am unsure but hopefully some one else knows. I wish you luck.

i-Mini: Are you referring to the small cap that hovers over top of the bulb? That could work although I am not sure how hot that area gets. Might be worth a try though. Could be onto a winner.

This mod started off originally as being done in the oven. It works just as well but I prefer to be able to gently control the heating by hand and hence the use of the heat gun.

07BPB - I just didn't have a heat gun and really wanted to get to it. LOL

I didn't paint the little tip thingy, but I had caliper paint on hand for it. It can't get 2k in there

Gotta tell ya, the write up on this made me do it. I would have never ripped all that apart without the instruction.
Thx

On to the next mod - custom heat shield for the short intake

I know this post has been out for a while but I have to thank 07BPB for the write up, especially the pics. IMO if you are planning on doing this mod this is the way to go. Everything worked out just as described in the post. I put this mod off for almost two years, just afraid to make the leap on breaking that seal, but everything worked out pretty good and I am real happy with the results.
Thanks!

No worries guys! Happy to help and I'm glad it worked out for you. Makes the write up even more worthwhile.

Happy motoring.

And also, after 2 or so years with the joey modded headlights still no issues at all.

Excellent write up. I have been thinking about buying a pair of 2006 headlights for my 2003 and doing this. (I can't stand the look of the 02-04 headlights) Does anyone know if I could just swap into 05/06 lights? Would they just be plug and play? Thanks for any help!
