Minspeed R56 cup holder

Has anyone installed this cup holder from Minspeed for an R56 MINI?

http://www.minspeed.net/R56CH.htm

I am curious how it installs and if it is removable. From the picture on their website it almost looks like it is drilled into the car and can't be moved. Is that the case? If you have one of these in your car, how does it work day to day and what size beverages can it hold??

yeah, i can obviously do that as well....i was just hoping to hear real world stories and see real world pictures of it's use, and not hear a salesperson's pitch on a product.

anyone out there have one installed in their car?

Jesus, there's enough demand for the gaudy R53 cupholder to make someone design one for the R56?

that's kind of why i want to hear real world stories about this product. i wouldn't want it sitting there all the time, but it would be nice to be able to stick a drink there so i'm not constantly shifting into. i've also noticed that most drinks seem to cover my window toggles as well, which makes it difficult to operate the windows without removing the drink first.

I do not have, or want an armrest, so for convenience I use the one behind the e-brake, that and the rubber holders in the cupholders make it a pain to get drinks in and out of sometimes.

I am personally not a fan of look of this cupholder. Too much clutter in the cabin.

Don't have one, but from the pictures i would be bumping that with the top of my hand every time i shifted. That would be worse than bumping a drink cup, which by the way only happens when it is a large or extra large, for me at least. But i do agree with the problem of any of the them being in the way of the window switches.

BTW i think it looks really ugly as well. It also looks like it is not easily removable.

...Thank you all for proving why Internet forums suck! A bunch of idiots offer their "advice" as opposed to anyone who actually has experience with this, which is what I was asking for. Honestly, I could care less if someone doesn't like the look of it, thinks they might hit it while shifting or compare it to an ashtry. Just wanted to know if anyone actually had one and could talk about it honestly.

....thanks for nothing!

Really? You are going to isolate an entire group with that broad a stroke?

You have to know if you post to a forum, whether you like it or not, opinions will follow. The best post was the first in your case, call MinSpeed and ask. Others here like myself, provided alternatives, while others were bluntly forthcoming with their views. If you had read any of the prior forums regarding the similar R53, you will know many do not like it, and quote some of the same concerns as a couple people mentioned here. It is a cupholder, technology has not advanced that far. To me this is worse than the R53 cupholder. If you google (something many non-idiots would do first by the way) the R55/R56 cup holder, you get lots lot hits. The first one will state:

"The new mounting bracket installs in minutes and it requires no screws or modifications. The high strength adhesive contact is strong enough to support even extra large cups on rough roads. Simple instructions are provided and include the proper method of removal without any damage to interior sufaces. "

I, personally, am not willing to risk my interior on any adhesive (especially to plastic), and most are not given the small contact area of the adhesive and potential weight of drink. You are likely able to mount it as high as you want, so shifting should not be an issue, but are you willing to risk spilling your beverage on your interior and instrument panel the first bump or sudden brake because I guarantee that adhesive is not holding any drink larger than a soda can. Even that is sketchy. So NO, it is not easily removable, you could potentially damage your dash, you will have to use an major adhesive remover to get residue off once it is removed.

Well Said ImCBParker. I completely agree. Mr. Pink Floyd- who are you to be so bitter with a huge stick or maybe your oem cupholder up your @$$??

First off, I don't see how you could be thrown a sales pitch in answering your question of:
"I am curious how it installs and if it is removable. From the picture on their website it almost looks like it is drilled into the car and can't be moved. Is that the case?"

How will they throw you a pitch with answering how it installs and if its removable? They can't lie about how its installed and tell you it magically floats and is removed by saying abba cadabbra... and whether it is drilled into the car or not... those are straight forward questions. You could find that out first before you go and accuse people of poking fun at you.

If it drills in, would you still want it? If not, then why do you care how it is for day to day usage?

Nevermind that, people even gave you their opinion of how they think it would run day to day. Obviously if you are not finding people answering that they have it, then hey, maybe there arent that many people out there who have it! Or better yet, with your assumptions and generalizing ALL INTERNET FORUMS IN EXISTENCE by one lousy thread you started on a product nobody likes, you can go ahead and assume because noone has responded they have it in this one thread, that means NOONE ON THE INTERNET has it. Take it for what its worth- you obviously will not be of much help to anybody in the community. Its comments like yours that make me wish we had a screening process for some members...

GAWD. Makes me sick.

ImCBParker +1 (very well said)

BostonR56S +1 (very well said)

artmem, TECENG, mshelton, VicSkimmr +1

I know there are people here that do not agree with my view of things sometimes, and i do not always agree with others views. But that is what this and most other INTERNET FORUMS are about. Having a discussion and getting points of views weather you agree or not.

So if you want to be helpful here we will all appreciate it, and we will reciprocate, and answer your questions. But if you are just going to berate us every time we have a particular view that you do not agree with please leave us alone.
