Remove your wall clock

has anyone removed there speedo and left it out? I find the wall clock useless b/c I have the speed on my tach in my 05 mcs. I would like to use that space for other gauges if possible. any help would be great

You cant.

Its a vital part of the vehicle electrical system.

IMHO the center stack speedo is one of the things that makes a MINI a MINI. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything, though I admit I rely on the tach ditigal readout to monitor my speed. The unit is a bit obtrusive size-wise in the 2nd Gen but at least an attempt was made to keep it part of the design.

I'll be a sad camper if BMW ever loses this connection to the Mini design heritage.

The spedo has things like you fuel gauge and other lights that you need to know what is going on in your car. I think I would like to know how much fuel I had all the time. Just my .02.

Well...heres an idea for you. Extend all wires and relocate it to where you cant see it and then put whatever gauges you want in there. I was thinking about doing that eventually. I saw someone do that with a tach and I thought it was cool. But again....my Mini barely looks like a Mini anymore as it is...

I had it out for about a week and everything worked just fine.

However you really do need an fuel gauge, odometer, coolant temp in the car.

I'm more used to looking to the center for my speed than behind the steering wheel. Having the speedometer behind the wheel seems crazy and bizarre. Glad mine doesn't have digital readout.

Well thanks everyone... I have an extra fuel gauge and water temp plus oil temp and a/f (all in ultra light autometer) So gauges aren't a problem I was going to put all of them in place of the big speedo does anyone have anymore input... I might extend the wires to move the dummy lights so they can still be used

Maybe something like this?

This is in a MkII VW Golf and was done by Plush Automotive. He is a MINI owner and on here as M444sy I think (can't remember how many 4 in his name). Try PMing him to see how he did that.

like rick said.. you NEED the speedometer unit in order for the MINI to run at all. it wont start or run without it.

i think you're gonna have to extend the lines and hide it if it's killin you to see it

try....

retrofit double column pack as fitted with satnav or chrono pack.
then fit satnav centre pack without screen = big hole in middle of dash, no wall clock.
fill with whatever of your choice.....

So which is true? While i'm not removing mine permanently, this would definitely help those of us who wish to change leds on our gauges (not likely done in one day), or even ship them off to have them changed. If anyone, like myself has only one vehicle, it would be great news if i can leave the instrument out for a few days and the car still operate.

As chris.j.lamb suggested, try retrofitting with chrono pack gauges...this moves speedo to steering column alongside tach...dual gauges on column. I really like the look on our Cooper

Dood...your not allowed to post...WHERE THE EEEEEF HAVE YOU BEEN?!?! Well, I dont know why the pack couldnt be removed in its entirety. None of that should trip the EML but I dont know. But like I said above...I saw a race car with the tach underneath the front seat. He just extended the wires...or maybe pulled the harness out and back. Who knows. I didnt ask. He also had a side exhaust and a center gravity fed fuel cell. The cell was in the same position but he welded a tunnel going from the center of the hatch down through the back into the cell....TRICK!
