Bonnet Scoops

I just discovered last night that my OEM bonnet scoop is about to be lost on the freeway again! I noticed that the right mounting clip is broken. I already lost another scoop earlier this year. I've heard of others losing their scoops as well. Does anyone know if the performance scoops that better direct air to the intercooler--do they have this same problem? Is this unique to me only?? Chime in please, thanks!

I just installed my M7 extreme scoop and I love it! Haven't had any real driving time with it yet. Got to put on the anti stone chip film before I take it onto the freeway. I don't know about the other aftermarket scoops, but the M7 is much stronger (fibreglass) than the stock scoop which is that thin limpy plastic. The opening is a lot larger plus the overhang will catch a lot more air. Might as well spend $230 and get yourself one! won't regret it. Also it fits right on!

I lost my stock scoop a while back and replaced it with an M7 ram scoop.
Instead of the flimsy plastic pieces that hold the scoop on, it's secured INto the scoop (not ONto the bottom) I never had a problem (even up to 140 mph) ...I mean the EXTREMELY fast and legal 65 highway speed
although sadly I removed the scoop to re-paint it and just popped it back in to see how it looked, I didn't have the key in my pocket to get to the hood release, so I just figured I'd bolt it in before I went anywhere and forgot to.

Mine has held up just fine thus far...knock on wood. And I was at 100-110 for quite a bit of time at Buttonwillow, if its going to rip off it should do it at those speeds.

I'm having the same problem with mine. The clips on the bottom keep breaking off. I think there's one left. I really don't want to spend a few hundred for an aftermarket one. I might just make one myself out of fiberglass.

Reviving this old thread. For the longest time I couldn't figure out what this intermittent rattle sound was that came from the engine area. Finally discovered that the right side clip on the hood scoop is broken, causing the scoop to vibrate at times.

I like the look of the OEM scoop so I'd like to try to repair it. Will super glue do the trick? Or do I need to get some epoxy, and if so, what kind?

Thanks for any insight!

I'm in the same boat, as my scoop now has all three clip brackets epoxied. They seem to last for 6 months before they break again. I've tried everything except epoxying the whole thing into the bonnet!

Time to look elsewhere, so ... I will be doing an M7 scoop as my next mod.

I had a rattle once too... however mine was a missing anti-rattle clip from the front brake calliper, lol

Thanks gear-head. What kind of epoxy should I look for at the local auto parts store?

I used a loc-tite two part epoxy from Home Depot. But like I said, it only seemed to last a year or so.

I used contact cement. Has held up for a year so far including my big roadtrip.

I only glued the clips back onto the scoop and remounted. But the part where my clips broke was on a fairly big flat surface so the contact cement would work.
