I for one do not mod my car wondering if it will reduce the value. I make my car my own for the simple reason to enjoy the car more. If your worried about resale value or loosing money a car is the worst form of an investment you can make anyway. So if your going to spend all this money on a car might as well go the extra step if there are things you would like to change.

I've been thinking about putting a parachute on the back of my mini. You know, the ones they have on the 1/4 track. That would be sweet.

Planning on turning your MINI into a top-fuel dragster, eh?

MINI-Fuel Dragster. I would have one of those little flags, "remove before flight" hanging off the chute.

But, it would also have an alternative use. If I wanted to picnic, I would just deploy the chute.

1200-1500 labor price or total price? That would be pretty good if that was total price.

There you go! But it would be cool to add those "NO STEP" and "RESCUE" decals to various parts of your car to complete the picture.

Get real! That would look silly. Maybe I would add little winglets to the sides...then those stickers would look more in place...great idea! How much do you think people would pay for such a kit? 1,100? maybe 1,500? I may be on to something here.

That would take some serious engineering, since the MINI uses frameless windows.

I have always thought lambo doors were a neat trick. Don't know why the MINI crowd above is so set against them.

I'm not necessarily against them. I just think that it's funny how played out they are.

But if you make them lightweight cosmetic pieces, then you have to add a lot more metal to the car's body to get the strength and rigidity where you need it to be.

If you look at a 1955 Mercedes 300 SLR, they went the "lightweight" route so that they could use regular folding metal props to support the doors. But if you look at the super-wide door sills, you can see how much extra material they had to put into the frame to compensate for the fact that the doors aren't structural at all.

Actually you have that kind of backwards. The wide sill was required because of the tubular frame adapted from the race car the 300SL was based on. The doors were developed to make egress easier.

Where do you guys learn all this? There must be a trick to it.

By the way, doesn't anyone find it ironic that folks who own a car that tauts its culture of customizing have in their company so many that are against customization?

There's a difference between customizing and ricing. Lambo doors seem like the 15-year-old kinda thing.

Oh, I'm not against customizing. I just don't care for lambo doors on a non Lamborghini.

Well.. I think.. they look ok.. and it's your car.. your decision.. ultimately your money
Someone also said the doors scream look at me.. well I for one get a tickle out of someone seeing my car and smiling.. she makes me smile.. why not someone else? For me the beauty of the mini was to make her mine.. something I enjoy and look forward to being in and driving!
It's your mini! do what you gotta do!
