Vintage is a good look, but suicide doors would look very odd on a Mini (and not in a good way), just like Lambo doors. I'm all for individuality, but some people here alter their car's appearance to a degree that it is physically painful to look at. These types of mods fall into this category.

To the OP:

For the same money, you could install coilovers, camber plates, a cam, CAI and pulley, none of which are listed as being on your car. What do you think would be a better investment?

I agree. If you want more fun and performance out of your MINI, then you could add the above parts. If you want to impress a bunch 16 year old girls when you pull up in front of Wal Mart, then definitely go with the lambo doors. I'm sorry, I had to say it. I couldn't resist.

to the above three comments: True.

I'm not saying I would ACTUALLY install suicide doors, but I think they'd look better than scissor doors.

The Rolls I think looks stupid with the suicide back door. I also think the Clubman, Honda Element, Mazda RX-8, etc. look silly with their little suicide style doors in back with a regular door in front.

And yes, you could put all the performance stuff into your car for the price of custom doors, but what if that's not someone's "cup of tea?"

Finally, I don't prefer to pick up 16 year old chicks at Wal-Mart. I like the reasonably priced ladies down the street from Winn Dixie...

LOL !!!! That's great !!! By the way, Suicide doors aren't bad to me because I think of it as retro and something historical in the automotive world. It's just something about Lambo doors on non lambos that I don't like. oh, by the way....you know that Air Force logo is copyrighted right? Watch out for Big Blue man !!!

Never mind, I saw you've got the garage door seal splitter. Enough said.

That's a pretty 'holier than thou' attitude Especially from someone with flik wheels...popular among that same 16 year old wal-mart parking lot crowd. They get just as much flack and prejudice as suicide doors on most forums at this point.

Nevermind, I saw you had your wrecked car decked out in Irish souvenirs.

P.S. It's just a difference in opinions of what looks good and what doesn't. I beg to differ.

Yeah, that was the old car. Turns out the Euro plate was a self-fulfilling prophecy. I've gone for a different look on the new car. Minimal (but not zero) chrome and mods to improve performance on the street and track. I just don't see the point of putting something on the car that adds weight when it's not a show car. Like you said, different strokes for different folks.

p.s.- thanks, I've been in the states for 31 yrs now. I'm loving it!

I love how people are going to tell you how you could spend your money in a better way....LMFAO, it never ends. You asked about the Lambo doors...I love them but would only put a really good quality on my car. I like the type that can be used either way, as a regular door or a Lambo door. If you decide to do it make sure you let us know.

those doors look a little out of proportion. The car is too short for those to work I think. Just an opinion tho! Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder

If I were making a show MINI (that in itself is a sin) I would put the doors on it but for everyday use, I would stick with plain vanilla doors, they have worked fine for a while, dont see a need to get rid of them.

if there not done rite, they are a nightmare! it will make you hate the car.
i wouldnt do it. Eventually your post can/will start to crack from the added stress, because of the different angle and weight distribution from the factory design.

ok.. i just found this thread..

i guess by the comments made that nobody has put suicide doors on a R53....

that is until now..

I have them..

it was an expensive and arduous install.. i dont recommend it to the faint hearted..

but they look great and work just the way i would hope..

the car will be at AMVIV..

the pictures i have taken dont really do it justice.. .

shaved, and newly painted....

it's the car i wanted it to be for the last 4 years.....

i'd like to think it's the only one of it's kind in the world....

its very easy to get in and out of..

the key fob sequence takes some getting used to......

once to open.... again to open other door.....

so under normal use.. for me.. its unlock once.. and i have to remember to lock the doors.. or the next time i hit the button they both pop open..

i just LOVE this car... !!!

Someone @ http://www.newminiclub.nl pointed me towards this thread. The car in post #1 is my car! But a very old pic though.

The LSD conversion kit (http://www.LSDdoors.com the ONLY way to go) was one of the very first modifications I've done to the car when it was only a year old. I still love it! (it's been almost 3 years since). I use the MINI as my daily drive. Which means I drive 2 hours every day. It's got a hefty 90K km's on the counter already.

The pic is a little out dated. This is what it currently looks like!

Enjoy!
