Interior/Exterior Power Steering Fan
Is the Power Steering Fan supposed to run all the time or is it on a thermostat or computer controlled? Went to put a cover for protection on it tonight and decided to take a look at it first, and it wasn't running when I started the car up.
it is wired directly to the thermostat. If the front cooling fan is on the power steering fan is on. I do believe that if the air is on, and the front cooling fan is on, then so is the power steering fan. How do I know all this, who woulda thunk that a 5 amps fuze, blown by the power steering fan (which was full of salt and sand) would cause my mini to overheat in about 33 seconds. Worry not about the cover until your warranty is out, my dealer keeps em in stock, takes about 15 minutes to replace em. I figure they will eventually change the design and I'll get on that doesn't self distruct.
UberCooperMan,
I had the same problem, stupid 5 amp blown fuse on ps fan causing auxiliary fans to blow too = instant overheating. Have your dealer trace problem circuit and re-wire so that there is no longer a shared circuit. Haven't had a problem since.
