Lighted Emblem

I was read a post today and it got me thinking Someone posted "how to make the emblem light up?" and this is the way that I thought would look pretty sweet.

For lighting up so there is a glow coming from behind the emblem. Get some heavy duty clear plastic that is thin enough to not to be seen to much, I am thinking Lexan. Place the MINI emblem to top and trace it, cut it out and place the emblem on top. Then head over to http://oznium.com and get some prewired led's in the color you would like. I think you would need 2 or 3 led's, right middle and left or 2 close to the start of the wings. I have no clue if there is hole behind the emblem or not, so if not you will need to make some so you can wire the led's. Then you will have to mount the plastic part onto the hood with some sort of adhesive.

I haven't done it but to me this sounds like it will work, I might just have to do this now that I wrote the book on it. This will not make the Emblem glow just the outline of it will. Should look pretty cool. I think I am going to experiment with this and see how it turns out.

Like the Idea

I am not much of an electrician so, I would be interested if you go through with this and how it works out.

I have seen in the past a indiglo type replacement emblem for the MINI. There are 2 small holes behind the emblem if I recall correctly. I would be interested if you figure out a way to make this work.

Not to take anything away from anyone but I don't see how it could work out without looking like a 17 year old drives the Mini and had it hooked up at Pep Boys. But hey I been wrong before.

Yes I agree with you when I first thought about it, after I posted it. Then I was thinking like a cool white LED would mke the emblem light up in all of its glory, it might look pretty neat.

Just to let you know I hate ricers.

Hey! I love Ricers!
I love the way they look in my rear view mirror as they disappear into the abyss.

The clear material will work - just cut it slightly smaller than the emblem. I'd polish the edges with very fine grit sandpaper and possibly some plastic polishing compound as well. I'd bet that you'll also need to dill holes or make accomodations for he LEDs temselves - remember that you CAN grind off or sand the LED body (it's just clear plastic) to make it smaller - just don't grind all the way down to the diode itself.

A single LED or 2 LEDs wil me more than enough light. If you use the pre-wired LEDs from Oznium, all you really need to do is hook them to the 12v. DC with a switch, or even splice the power leads into the parking lights if you want them to come on with those lights - DC just uses 1 positive wire (red) and one ground wire (black) - very simple.
