Interior/Exterior GP style roof spoiler
FYI
I don't know much about these projects and the process to make the wing, but I have always felt it didn't need to be so in depth. Just because the GP has notched glass doesn't mean a replica needs to utilize notched glass. However, the proportions of the GP wing are just perfect. It's not an overpowering presence, but it sure does get noticed. It fits the lines of the Mini so well.
Absolutely true. I am in the prototype design stage now of such a wing. I am using the GP wing as inspiration, but it will not be a copy. I am planning an angle of attack adjustability into the design. Prototype part will take a few more weeks and then I'll release some photos.

I was wondering if you maybe had something up your sleeve.
Can't wait to see the pics.

there are some physics in aerodynamics involved to make it actually work.
If you follow the mounting of the GP wing, youll see why the glass is notched.
Ive partnerd in a a cowl hood design made fiberglass using a stock metal hood as the mold, and it was very time consuming.
if it werent "so in depth" to make one, we would all have one off's

Joel himself does know about these projects and processes to make a wing.

if he can pull it off using a similar style uprite design, I will be very interested.
while were on the subject of wings.... It looks like the stock wing on the S is held in place by 2 or more bolts that also hold the rear hatch hinges on.
I cant see it being all 4 so which two? the upper or lower?

If someone has the chops to make a few of these in Fiberglass I'd be willing to send you the prototype. All I ask is for a production one I can use, can be unfinished, I'll do the paint work.
The stock wing is held on by two bolts, they do not hold the hatch, only the wing. Double sided tape is also used, and it's some seriously sticky stuff. The Stock wing bolts are under the 2 black plugs in the top of the hatch.
Arqray Wing
Yep...I have one...it mounts on the factory spots, plus double sided tape on the glass.
Don't ask for pics yet...I still have the JCW wing mounted and working on getting it removed.
And yes the price...$900

ok thanks
i realize that the uprites would have to be made wider at the top to accomplish this, but it may be do able. my fiberglass guy really enjoyed the hood project, so he (as well as I ) may be interested in making something very close to what you have started, with a less complicated install.
then you can keep the one you have but still make $ on the production run
I thought there were a couple pics posted somewhere of your car(at AMVIV?) with the prototype mounted.
Ive seen those pics, but the shots I would like to see are the molds off the car as well.
there on page 4 of this thread
it looks like minor modding is needed to make it work. the upper portion would have to move inbound a bit more, have a little more angle added, then stretch to the factory holes, it seems like it could work ok but will it be to far off for people to consider the "new" adjustments. It could retain a lot of the factory shape, just a bit more exajurated.

Hey Joaquin, a few people had been bugging me about doing one. I couldn't bring myself to copy another design. Talked to a few other people about what they really expect out of a wing, for track use, looked at a few GPs, then started the prototype a few weeks ago. Of course I also see the need for a good front splitter, so started the design for one to compliement the rear wing.

I had a funny feeling you've been working on something.
Definitely post some pics(or sneak some to me via email
) when you're ready to.

cool, thanks for the insight on the mounting, that part was necessary - pics aren't as necessary just yet as i can take all the pics i want when i have one installed on my car! we just need to know where you went through to get it! i'll pay that much for a custom spoiler instead of a GP replica for the reasons previously stated......

I've seen those pics on there. You did a great job on that lip. I have an idea that i'll PM you about.

i have a feeling this post is going to take this thread into two different directions, but since the thread's title is "GP STYLE roof spoiler," this post is fitting to belong on this thread until more attention is received from it.....
how many people would SERIOUSLY consider a group buy started by a NAM vendor if i were helping to arrange it for the ARQRAY spoiler? sounds like a lot of folks on here have some pretty deep pockets since we're talking about $1600 for spoiler parts alone on the authentic GP, not including rear glass and installation, to get a badass adjustable carbon fiber wing from Japan that doesn't require new rear glass on your car in America......... shouldn't be hard to find at least 4 more people who would be interested in pulling the trigger on this purchase!
waiting back for a few more emails from businesses who deal with or actually OWN ARQRAY (Fujitsubo USA) and can import it to America before i start saying for sure what the deal is, but i'm using this post to gain interest for a friend of mine who is a NAM vendor and i would trust with the purchase of a minimum of 5 spoilers, then he would sell them directly to you.... i show him you guys are interested, he places the order for the spoilers, he ships them out to you upon receipt, couldn't be any easier! i've already found one company who can get them into the states, so i know it can be done, just waiting to see if anyone else wants this spoiler as much as i do!!!

posting the picture one more time just for fun, haha

I may be interested, but it would take a lot to convince me only because i love the lines of the GP spoiler and the Arquay just does not have the same presence. It's just way too bubbly and rounded from the pic above. But if I saw more pics I could change my mind.
