Interior/Exterior Joey mod R56!
So, I just got done reading through every postregarding joey mods on NAM and I'm still running into a question.
Is the paint bubbling on the HIDs, the halogens, or both? The reason I ask is because if I were to paint the halogens with non heat proof paint will the paint start to fail?

ah, yeah, not sure about plasti-dip having any kind of heat resistance.
sorry, you had to learn the hard way. I too had some difficulty at first w/ my Joey Mod. ....yet in the end the results came out stellar.

The seal sits inside and underneath the chrome trim piece. Im sure it gets a little wet but i dont think rain water is directly hitting the seal....
Ive opened my headlights twice now and re-used that goopy stuff twice. So far no condensation under the lens.

Hey guys just to let everyone know, I have a set of joey modded (matte black) xenons that I am looking to trade for someone's stock chrome ones. They are in excellent condition, with only a very small amount of bubbling. If your interested, PM me.
So, I decided to go ahead and do this today with my spare time, after debating doing it for about 2 months. Well, I can't even get the assembly off. The body-side bolt (on BOTH HEADLIGHTS) has rusted from water run-off, and now both turn as they please without any give.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get these things off?!

Hello Group and Happy Holiday's
I did the modification on the lights, but i wanted to do something a little different.
I have the Xeon lights and for the turn signal's bulbs, i was thinking of putting HID lights.
Has anyone done anything like this. Is it possible on the fitting, would it be just easier just have a bright LED bulb and make the turn signal into a running light.
I want the turn signal bulb to be the running lights. Wiring is not the issue, Fitting HID is??

So, I just finished the joey mods on my wife's MC and I'm very pleased with it. But, I have to say I should have never asked her to help because while we were cleaning the tape residue off the reflectors, she rubbed a decent size amount of the reflector off. She was extremely upset about it even though I was pretty supportive about it. I also promised her that we would get a new headlight because her cooper is literally 3 weeks old. So my question is: Where can I get a 2011 driver side halogen headlamp? And, how much am I looking to spend? Thanks in advance.

Will, my wife was actually really into it and other than making that one mistake, she was great. She is just really upset about that one mistake and I hate to see her all distraught over something that can easily be corrected by just buying a new headlight assembly. That's why I came on here to see is anyone knew of a vendor that I could purchase a 2011 halogen headlight? Or would a 2010 fit properly? Thanks

Thanks! I'm actually picking up my Countryman tomorrow, so I'll ask the service department about the '10 and '11 headlights. Also, she's seems to be okay now with the "mistake" because it's hardly noticeable anyway, but I'll ask her in the morning if she still wants to change it. Private message me when you know, thanks again.
Doh !!!
Used an old crappy oven we have here at the shop and I think maybe its heat is off a little bit from what the **** actually says !!! Luckily had an extra light here so decided to just use a heat gun and it worked fine
Finally decided to do the Joey Mod on my 07 PW/PW MCS. Very easy mod with some complications. I broke one of the plastic screw housings for the headlamp as I was removing it. I barely turned the screw and it broke right off. I had to Gorilla glue it, to mix results. Why auto makers continue to have flimsy plastic screw housings is beyond me.
The easy and not so scary part was removing the cover. Baked the lamp on 250f for 5 minutes and worked like a charm. Ended up being a two man job to remove the cover. Seemed easier than solo IMO. Ruffed up the chrome and sprayed three coats of Krylon Fusion satin black paint for plastics.
Painting was the hardest and most annoying bit. The Krylon paint blows. They have an awful sprayer and it runs like a beast. It sprayed in globs instead of clean coats and took forever to dry even in 100 degree AZ heat. Paint ended up accumulating in two areas, right underneath the turning signal and to the sides of the projector ballast. They should make the sprayer like Plastidip which works soooo much better. If I had to do it again I would have used different spray paint. Also, I opted for an amber light bulb instead of the lens. Looks better if you're not lucky enough to have the clear lenses. Overall it looks good. I give my efforts a solid 7/10.
Did I mention how much I hated painting them?
It was very disconcerting.
