- No more orange!

All I need to do next is find a way to get rid of the orange in the rear or purcahse the rear tail lights that have the clear turn signal..

Looks great! I have plain white lights in my front/side blinkers and Silvervision reds in the back. I'm probably going to follow your lead and go for the superwhites in the front/side.

I purchased them at a local car accessory store.. The 194 size and 1156 or 1157 (i forgot already) are PIAA bulbs and the other bulbs brand is LUKS. I believe the headlight/foglights are 6000K (but for a bulb, it puts out a nice color I think - without going HID just yet) Headlight = H13, Fog = H8, sidemarker = 194 as well!

For a similar (blue-when-off) look, but legal (amber-when-flashing) operation... I'd recommend the UK-spec Osram DIADEM bulbs:

I actually did a photo shoot last week of a customer's R56 that we put our Silver turn signal bulbs in. They flash amber, but look clear when not lit. I have them here, but still need to list them on the website. I'll see if I can post the pics here first.

I think Sylvania makes a similar bulb (for the front and back turn signals anyway, I've not seen them for the side markers) that you can find for around $12 a pair. I've seen them at Autozone.

BMW sells 'official' silver bulbs (63 21 7 160 897) but they're a bit spendy (around $15 each).

I think you're referring to MINIGURU's post above... I have the Silvervisions in mine, too... I like 'em.

DIADEM OSRAM bulbs are distinctly BLUE when off, as in the pics above and AMBER when lit (NOT white). Veeeeerrrrryyyyyy different from the Silvervisons.

There are many types of bulbs out there.. silver when off so you can't see them, blue when off (haven't seen them), but I just like the blue/clear look so that's why I replaced mine.. You guys can use any bulb, it's how you feel about what your color preference is and how you feel about legality issues.. Me, I don't care, I've never gotten a ticket for it, and I don't think I ever will, if anything I'll get a ticket for something else before light bulbs lol..

turn signals...

i know this thread is only slightly old....hopefully somebody will see it..

i have the halegon lights in my 08 MCS, i want to replace the turn singals in the headlights....

when off, i really want the clear bulb look as best as humanly possible.

and didn't mind spending some money on them....would you guys reccommend me going with the silverstar bulbs, hoen, or bmw part # that somebody listed a couple posts ago. - all of those i just mentioned were amber when flashing.

(i aslo called a bmw parts dept. and they told me the buld was 21 W, is this different from my manual that says PY 21 W? or does just the 21 W the important part?

thx

adam

Pull out your existing bulbs, wrap the base in painter's tape, and shoot them with some light coats of silver Krylon. They will disappear behind clear lenses and blink amber. It is REALLY cheap for me because I already have the paint.

did you have the orange turn signals (the ones in your headlights) or did you order yours without it... i've been lookin for if ther was a way to get rid of those orange turn signals, but it just seems like they're painted on or something.

Are you talking about the outer lense in front of the bulb? If so, yes, I oredered the clear ones, but the bulb behind is orange and reflects off of the reflector rendering the clear lense almost worthless. If I spray the orange bulb with silver Krylon it will remove the orange reflective effect and make them look like clear turn signals as intended. BMW fixed this goof-up several years ago in their turn signals by using the silver bulbs from the factory. I guess it hasn't transferred over to Mini yet.

To Junior1459 or anyone else,

For getting rid of the Orange Turnsignals, is there a difference in the Headlight itself? From what I can tell myself, my headlight turnsignal area is actually orange and not just a reflection of the bulb.

Is there a different headlight assembly I can get to get rid of the actual orange lens?

If you didn't opt for white turn signals, then the actual lens in the turn signal assembly is orange. I'm pretty sure that can be easily switched out as well though.

What many complain about is even with the option, the lens is clear but the bulb is yellow. So when looked at straight on, one still gets that 'egg yolk' effect. I switched to the silver BMW bulbs and am quite pleased.

OK thanks, that's what I thought. I'll have to see if I can get the non orange ones some time.

Changing the lenses? Yeah you can do it on Xenons. If you have orange lenses, then you have clear bulbs behind them that flash white WITHOUT the lens. Just be sure to check whats legal in your state. Some require the bulbs to flash orange, and others allow white. I took out my orange lenses and drove for a month with the original bulbs. I then purchased some silver bulbs and got the orange flash back.
