Take care of yourself!!!

In the meantime I have decided I am going with a boost/vac gauge and a water temp gauge. Going with the Stewart Warner competition style which is the same manufacturer as the OEM gauges on the previous model JCW. The boost/vac for future mods and the water temp as the earliest warning sign of trouble on the track.

Sounds good... I just like the AutoMeter Ultra-Lite II - Never did get a pic up here. Will try to get this weekend.

I was going with the Ultra-Lite II until I discovered the Stewart Warner gauges were the OEM gauges on the prior model and are silver faced, backlit and look a little more stock than the Ultra-Lite II. I think both are great solutions that will look stock in place.

I guess that since I've always had gauges in my cars that were aftermarket and some cars just could never be matched I'm more used to having a gauge that doesn't match.
I remember the days long before we had LEDs and the lighting in gauges was terrible to say the least. The lighting these days is phenomanal .

Hey there! Getting Ready to Tackle a Gauge Install...

Good evening! Did this project ever run to completion?

Wanted to see if anyone is interested in continuing this... I'm probably going to have a local machine shop modify a manifold... I've got the remainder of the Bill of Materials to solve this and if folks are still interested I can put some notes together when I'm finished and post them...

Would anyone be interested in purchasing a modified manifold/adaptor kit? It's probably going to be pretty costly, in the end... (and if anyone has an adaptor source, I'd like to know about it! Maybe that's why there aren't any recent posts... :-) )

Best!

Thanks!

Hey there! Thanks! The original project was about finding a way to install an oil pressure/temperature sensor, though... :-) I'm looking for something similar to provide access to multiple ports coming off of a handy place to sample oil under pressure... Also need to provide access for the OEM pressure sensor/switch to keep the ECU in line...

Yep...

The design is pretty much done... I've got a machine shop down the street that I'm talking to about slightly modifying a stock hydraulic manifold. The cost is a little on the high side, frankly, but I think I'm probably going to go through with the installation in early October. I may put a kit together if folks are interested... I was kind of hoping that, in the interim, someone would offer a similar kit, but I've not seen anything yet...

Gauges

I used Marshall Gauges out of Anaheim they match the interior perfectly. Amber backlighting and silver faces. Ended up using Alta for the boost pick off and M7 for the water temp along with a Craven Speed A frame and pods. Extremely happy with the results. Several pictures in my gallery.

Power for the gauges mine are powered from the relay block drivers side of the engine by the firewall the advantage is they stay on for a minute after engine shut down should any issues arise. However alternate power and lighting is available by going to Alta website they have instructions with their gauges. I did use the DSC for light control and power would have been easier to hook up down there had I seen these instructions prior to installing mine.

How would you install the water temp sensor without using M7's adapter?

I have seen several posts where they drill a hole into the overflow bottle not a real accurate reading and the M7 adapter just drops into the hose in place of a plastic coupling see the link below.

Has anyone found a solution to the Oil Pressure/Temp gauge tap-off for the R56, and/or has anyone heard from the OP mickeyb17?
I have contacted the folks at Grassroots Garage to have my name added to their list, they are working with Craven Speed on a solution, and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything.
Last thing I remember was him posting about his health issues.
YO, mickey you out there?

Looks like Craven's should be done soon:

I have a prototype made that's similar to theirs but still needs a final modification. However I can't completely mine until there's income, if you know what I mean.

Craven Oil Pressure Adaptor

Craven expects to have their oil press/temp adaptor ready the first week of July. It's intended for only one sender, but, it does have 3 mounting ports! It might be possible to mount both pressure and temp senders if you can find room for them and wiring. I'm on their list!
PS: Just got their bracket & pods today and did a quick lookee-loo install using AutoMeter Phantom 52mm gauges. Looks better than OEM. They do a very high class piece of work, IMHO. Dwight

I've been in the process of installing/wiring two Prosport Gauges (Water Temp & OiL Press) using the Craven dual pod to be mounted on the left of the tach using their "A" adaptor, the arm & ball for the Garmin already occupies the right side. They certainly do make quality products, and I'm on their list for the oil sending adaptor

John, when you installed your gauges what color wire did you tap into for the lighting? I'm reading to use the gray wire from the bundle that goes to the instrument cluster, ie the tach etc, but the only gray wire in that bundle also has a yellow stripe.

Any help will be appreciated.

Route your wire down to your DSC button and pick the light wire up there. Also I hear that Marshalls Gauges is modifying their font to match the Mini Cooper. I have enjoyed the look and use of the boost/vac and water temp gauges. Orange thru the gauge with silver face and black ring matches my piano black interior.
