Shift **** question!

Good god! Im trying to take the stock **** off, are there any screws? Or do I just pull it up as hard as i can? It feels like im gonna rip the whole shift rod out if I pull any harder, is there a trick to getting it off?

You have the right idea. You have to just pull straight up, being very careful to not have your face in the way. In fact, I'd recommend opening your sunroof if you have one, just because you may smash your hand up into it, once it frees up.

I've removed them about 5 times in our three cars. I only got one fat lip out of it (I learn fast).

Are we sure this is the same for the R56 as it was for the R53?

Vic, the R56 is the same, it just pulls right off. well right off is a relative term. there is no way by tugging at it you would know to just keep pulling. And be careful if straddling...

no you dont need that, if you are talking about the visible white plastic on the stock ****. its just to help keep it in place and to hold up the **** **** boot.

that plastic ring just holds the boot to the **** so it doesn't droop down. i re-installed it when i changed to the JCW ****.

It's not your lip I'd be worrying about if you're straddling it...

ok, i dont know how to re-install that piece, which way does the plastic black ring go, and where does it go? Do I have to put it on the **** 1st then install the ****? Or do I put the ring over the boot or inside the boot? Thanks for the help!

well, i got annoyed looking at that plastic piece, so i went out and i stuck the piece on the end of the JCW **** and twisted some of the boot under the piece and put the **** on, so far the boot stays up and i tried to pull it down and it doesnt come off, hopefully i did it right. if i didnt please someone tell me what to do.

Gear ****

I pulled the gear shift **** off my '06 tonight to replace the insert with an S insert...the plastic sleeve didn't come off with the ****. I can feel the sleeve inside the boot. Apparently it's only function is to keep the boot from sliding down the shaft.
