Would it be possible for me to get a carbon finber hood if something happened to mine through insurance?

It depends on your insurance company, but in general, they cut you a check for the amount of the repair estimate, less your deductible. What you do with the money is up to you. If you want to pay the difference and replace the damaged hood with a CF one, that's certainly an option.

Skies are clear, and now that the sun has gone down, the temp's dropped to about 65F, down from a high of 85F earlier today.

I've only been here for about two months, but I have to admit the weather is spoiling me already. I just wish I had more time to get outside and enjoy it!

I just thought of something else - a new MINI hood is about $450 unpainted, and then there's the material cost and labour to have it prepped, painted and installed. Depending on how much the CF hood costs, you might actually end up being able to go with CF for less than it would cost to have the stock hood replaced and repainted.

born and raised in pacific grove, miss it dearly, will be back next year. as for the question, I wouldnt know why you couldnt get it. if they did check in on you (doubtful) as long a you have a hood, I think you would be good.

You're both right. But as to not confuse the OP...

Scott's reply is applicable when the insurance company is doing the estimate and cutting the check directly to you.

JIMINI's wife is talking about when the insurance company has a program where the shop does the estimate for them and they pay the shop directly. In that case, yeah, you can have the shop put on your carbon fiber bonnet but you will be responsible for the difference in the cost of the part plus any additional labor involved.

Looking at www.pelicanparts.com, I found the hood for $453 and free shipping. The part number is 41617067753.

Insurance can be a tricky thing & it took me 2 weeks of insurance shopping to finally settle on a company who'd cover my mods & upgrades (State Farm Insurance). I had to put together an itemized list of: interior, exterior, suspension, rim/tire, engine upgrades, audio/visual, etc. then have the car appraised, put together a folder of all pertinent receipts & then I was issued a policy which fit exactly what I was looking for. I have a great insurance agent who guided me through the whole process, so ask your carrier & hopefully they can help you become familiar with policy intracacies.

I deal with insurance companies pretty routinely in my own profession and this is the correct answer, especially as it is coming from someone who handles the claims. An insurance company only is responsible for paying the replacement cost of the item that was damaged, not for an upgrade. In fact, if the damaged part can be had for less money as a "used" part that is all you will get (unless your vehicle was fairly new and you fight them tooth and nail over getting a new one instead).
