Mystery of the disappearing windshield washer solution solved.

Although I rarely use my windshield washers, I've had to fill up the reservoir more times than is reasonable. I couldn't figure our where the fluid was going, until the other day. Turns out that the cover ofthe reservoir is coming loose, and then under very hard braking, the windshield fluid is spilling out. Kind of funny now that I've discovered the mystery.

Anyway, now I need to figure out how to better secure the top of the reservoir. I could zip tie it, but I'd like something I could do and undo.

Anyone else experience this problem? If so, how did you solve it?

is that wat happens?
i knew my fluid runs out really quick but i figured it was cause when shooting at the windshield it shoots 4 little sprays that are jet like which therefore wastes the fluid by spraying it all over the car.
i too would like to see a solution. (if there is one..)

Well, I can tell you that while you're prepping your MINI for an autocross day, it's *not* a good idea to top off the washer reservoirs "since I'm under the hood anyway".

After my first run, there was so much fluid dripping out from underneath the bonnet that I thought I'd sprung a leak in my radiator.

I too find my reseviors low and when I check the lids, they are on tight. When I brought my car to the dealer for scheduled maintenance they charged me $6.00 to refill them!!! YIKES!!! Now that's a perfect example of a RIP-OFF!!! Especially when I can buy a gallon of this stuff at the auto parts store for a mere $1.00!

Does anyone know how to access the reservoirs? I suppose it involves removing the side panel of the body.

Unless you are track racing, if you are losing that much washer fluid from braking, why are you braking so hard???

Ding ding ding, we have a winner . HPDE is where I found out what was going on with the disappearing fluid. I've used more washer fluid by doing HPDE and autocross than I have by cleaning my windows ?

under warrenty

I had a warrenty issue with the wiper tank/system. took two trips to dealer. first trip they removed tire and fender to reconnect tube to tank..when it happened the 2nd time they zip tied the tube to tank, and when that fell off they did it again...amazing. only 9000 miles on car

Ken

You have to open your hood, remove your wheel, remove your wheel well liner, and viola! There it is tucked up under the side panel. The side panel is not easily removed, I tried to do so a little while ago, however, several of the bolts holding it on are literally painted on. If you had a torx set that can go on a ratchet, then you might be able to remove the side panel.

Same problem with mine, but when I pulled the fender liner I found that the pump was not fully seated in the tank (rubber ring around it to seal it) and the fluid was leaking from there. A little noodging of the pump assembly, and it popped into place. Nary a leak since.

I have used these for a while now, and it still leaks out under hard braking, just don't fill em up as much is the best thing, or if there was some kind of gasket made for the lid that actually sealed correctly
