Chili red with... red stripes?

Not sure if anyone's done this yet, at least on a red MINI... but does anyone have any pics of a red mini with red stripes? I don't mean red as in to match the color of the car, obviously that would have no effect... I mean stripes that were a touch lighter, or darker than the Chili Red, to give just a slight effect. I'd be interested to know what this looks like.

Frosted vinyl red would work possibly, save for the fact that frosted vinyl isn't good for your car

Painted ghost stripes would be quite cool.

You could do "Shadow Stripes" - mix a little bit of black tint into some clearcoat, and use that to apply your stripes. Use multiple thin coats until you have the desired contrast between the stripes and the body colour.

It's basically the same thing as a "candy" paint job (tinted clear over a coloured base coat), but instead of tinting the clear with a different colour, you just use black. You could even put in some fine metallic or pearlescent flakes. That's what "Ghost Flames" usually are - clearcoat that's been mixed with tint, flakes and/or pearlescent particles.

Maybe red vinyl but with a matte finish instead of gloss?

Matte finish would be cool, but it would have to be a slightly different color to look good I think. Red is a tough color. I'd have to actually look at the vinyl and compare it on top of my car first.

What about matte-finish clear vinyl?

interesting, I hadn't given that a thought. I don't think it would give the effect im looking for tho. It's one of those things I have to see to decide about I guess.

I have long been considering a darker shade of CR as a single stripe the same width as the scoop, beginning at the back of the scoop, and going all the way back through the cowl. I am not sure about the stripe on the roof or boot, but I'm thinking about it.

I had an opportunity to actually see how it would look one day after I had come back to the car in a parking lot. Just after noon, a deep contrasting shadow was cast starkly right in the center of the hood by a light fixture under which I had parked. It really looked cool.

Until that time, I had only been thinking about a black stripe in that area. The dark shadow looked really good on the CR.

If I do it, I am going to have it painted. I already had vinyl stripes once, and I didn't care for it.

Painting would be ideal in this case, because you could just have a tinted clear coat painted on, and probably get exactly the look you want. For me however, painting is not in my budget.

That color scheme looked great on the GM&O railroad equipment.

Well I'm having a sample of red vinyl sent to me from mightystripes.com, to see what the shade of red vinyl looks like against Chili Red. If it's the same shade, oh well. If not, I might have to experiment with it.
