sunroof canvas?

Is there any type of oem or aftermarket replacement for the sunroof screen? I really dislike the factory mesh screen that my mini has. It lets in too much light and seems like it would cause premature wear and discoloring of the interior pieces. Does anything like this exist? If not, i may end up placing vinly or very dark tint on it to black it out more.

I've been thinking about taking that shade reel apart to see if I can change the fabric. I'll share what I find.

Me too...and you are not the only one bothered by this......I started a thread on this topic, currently on page 3 of the General MINI Talk forum.....there were a lot of people who also wish for an opaque option. The product that I developed, but cannot find a manufacturer for, lets you have the mesh shade, or a opaque shade, or half and half whenever you want without needing to stuff a cardboard thing up there or having to tint the sunroof glass too dark. Here is the info on that other thread:

sunroof opaque shade, permanantly attached opaque roll-up sunroof shade

I'm guessing that taking the OE shade apart wouldn't be such a big deal - or even buying another one new OE and playing with it... haven't checked it yet and my next dealer appt is 9/10, so it'll be a while...

In the summer months it takes too long for the AC to cool the interior of the car and the roll out shade does little to help. I bought a pair of sun blocking roof shades (see link below), They fit fairly well but do a great job keeping the sun out. I just take them out as the weather cools.

Actually, I was just told this same thing about the tint possibly cracking the sunroof by a friend who installs tint professionally, is this maybe a "hot" state thing?

I lived in Peoria (AZ) for 20 years and had tinted sunroof glass and t-tops tinted. Maybe I was lucky but I never had a problem.
No disrespect to your friend but I think this is urban myth.

I live in a hot area, 108 here today, and I seem to be ok with the OEM shade. If I would change, and there has been talk of this before, would be great to find someone to develope a CF panel instead of the glass, save weight and would be darker for those that like the dark .
