Best driving lamps/fog-light bar

just wondering what most people put on their minis. Im thinking of getting the alta light bar, but the uber-mini one looked nice as well. Im more of a fan of the 4 lights on the bottem grille. Pics please!

I've recently seen an S with the Alta bar up close and its hella sweet. High quality brackets, very stable, good looking piece. The woman and her husband said the lights are like harnessing the power of the sun. I wouldn't doubt it and would not wanna see it from in front at night.

I like the Alta one but it seems to require more modifications to the mini (cutting of the grill). I know the grill isn't that big of deal and can be easily cut but I wish an aftermarket grill with the holes molded in was out there. Sometimes cutting something like that (at least for me) can end up being a hack job.

I am leaning towards the Palo Uber one since you only have to drill holes in the lower lip and it gives me the option to just having 2 lights instead of 4.

Keep in mind I am no running the aero bumper just the standard one.

Outmotoring has a nice set of brackets that mount on the bumper beam. You can use 2 as I did or go with 4. I don't see them on his site. Call Aaron & tell him you want the ones Crashton bought.

I've got $140 in my light brackets & lights. They are stable & don't bounce. For me a real deal in a great bracket. If a fella wanted 4 lights he's have to x-2 the $$$.

Go with Alta's I love mine. It has been amazing and they have great service. I had a bar that went through a bad batch of powdercoating and they are sending me a brand new bar...I should have it on Monday.

I was told that the outmotoring lower grille mounted brackets were discontinued or something and the new redesigned style won't be available for another couple of weeks . I'm kinda upset cuz I wanna add some lights really bad! :impatient

I'd love to make my own light bar. Already have a plan and design in my head, just need to figure out the execution.

I purchased a used grille light bar with Hella driving lights off eBay last summer. Since then I've seen the same set-up in a couple of photos in the Moss catalogue, but, not offered for sale. It's a chromed metal bar that holds the Hella driving lights. No drilling necessary. It has bolts that reach through the front grille slats. It has metal plates behind the grill. Nuts behind the plates secure it to the grille. I had it wired so I can unplug the lights and remove the entire unit without any hassle. Very easy and it looks good. Many people that have seen it are really interested in the set-up. It is not currently available in the Moss catalogue. I haven't seen it anywhere else. I'd actually like to know more about it too. It works great and it really couldn't be easier to put on or take off!

The only thing I don't like about the P.U. bar is that there is a gap in the middle.

I have and like the Palo Uber. It mounts very well to the car and the lights do not move at all. The also send you a nice switch mounting panel for the inside.

The gap in the middle does not look bad at all see my pictures:

Drive into the light

I have a homemade set-up like "twistysister". The brackets mount on the hood. The light bar, which is black and flush with the grill, has long bolts that go through the grill and mount to the bracket. The lights do not stick out past the front bumper. When the bar is not installed, you see nothing but the Mini nose. The lights are 100 watts "Eagle Eye" cheapo's from JC Whitney($40/set) but give off 380,000 candlepower/set. They worked great at night while on the Dragon. Whenever our group went out at night they always put me in front.

I like your setup. Very well designed.

FWIW Summit racing has Hella 500 driving light kits for $60.

When I bought the "cheapo's " they were on sale for $30/set. My plan was to get the light bar working and see how well it looked and worked. If the lights were not bright enough or burned out, I planned to upgrade them. They are still working great! Here are before and after this year's Dragon.
The after was after hitting a deer on the way to Midnight on the Dragon. I saw him though!

I'm not knocking the lights you bought from JCW. I was just surprised that the Hella's were as cheap as they are.

Sorry about the Bambi hit. You were lucky it was a glancing blow.

Chuck,

No knock taken. I agree that the Hella's are a great deal.

We met at the Canton Car Museum. Right? How's your summer going?

Yes Colin we did. I thought your MINI looked very familiar. My summer's going great. How are those two wonderful boys of yours doing?

From what I have been reading this seems to only be with the aero bumper. Do you have the standard or aero bumper? Could you give a little info on your install?

I actually like the gap in the middle and the fact the lights sit a little lower than the Alta. Honestly, I prefer just mounting of 2 lights (inside ones) and the Alta doesn't give me that flexability without seeing the part of the light bar.

The switch panel pictured in the picture below mounts under the toggle switches:
