Your boot stripe installations have inspired me to give it a shot.
I will give it my best shot(s) tomorrow after a bit of Jack Daniels to calm the nerves.

Well here's my boot stripe project.
It took me about an hour, but I was trying to make sure that I didn't mess things up.
Thanks to the guidance from this thread it was as easy as you showed me it would be.

I started by cleaning the surface of the boot.

I started on the left side so that I would have to deal with the Cooper S emblem right away.

I quickly moved to the right to align the emblem.

After both stripes were on and properly aligned, I was ready for the Cooper S emblem.

And here's the finished product.
It looks like I got the emblem on straight.

Thank you for your wisdom and guidance ImagoX.

Has anyone done it this way? It's been so long I don't remember exactly how I did it and what the water to soap ratio was.
I've done it both ways, and the "wet" method is definitely the only way to go IMO. you can work with the material if you need to, and you will get NO bubbles. Anyone know of a reason why not to do this? Seems like one of those things that's so obvious, there must be something I'm missing.....

Dry method is

1. Less PIA. No messing with detergent and water solution. No sticky mixture, adhevise to clean off the car when you're done.

2. Faster. I can do dry install in about 30 minutes, start to finish. No waiting for the mixture to dry before removing the protective covering.

3. Looks just as good. I've had two very tiny bubbles in my three installs and they were gone within a week without having to poke them with a pin.

I would ask the same question: Why would anyone want to mess with the soapy water doing a wet install ?? If you line them up right before you start and take the squeegee slowly up or down the stripe, there is no way you can mess it up.

This thread has eased my fears about stripping the white stripes my car came with, and adding black ones myself. Has anyone done the Bonnet or is their a separate thread for that ?

Nah - exact same technique for the bonnet. I've always done them dry and they came out great - just be sure to measure, measure again and then walk away then measure a third time before sticking them down. Good points to take measurements are the squirter jets, the sides of the supercharger scoop )if you have one) and the sides of the MINI emblem. then just do the exact same thing as with the boot, namely cut away half the backing material and then let the squeegee do the work. I prefer to start with the TOP part of the stripe (the side closer to the windscreen) but you can do either. Best of luck to you!

Cabriopilot - looks GREAT! Congrats!

Thanks to everyone that added to the thread, it made me decide that I want to put the bonnet/boot stripes on myself. Which brings me to my question:
Has anyone put the bonnet stripes on themselves? If so how hard is it and what can I expect when/if I do it myself. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Yep, I have... no harder than the boot stripes, IMO. Just make sure you have them lined up perfectly before you peel off the first half of the backing. As long as you've done that, smooth sailing !

Thanks... yeah, I'm really happy with the way the mods turned out. Those stripes are custom from Aesthetic Creations. The red pins are wider than the standard pinstripes.

The red is carried over to other small mods, like these door sill plates, designed by me and Mike at Aesthetic Creations. My idea, his fine tuning.

Well... I'm going to have to talk to Mike about that whole "dot net" thing.

I've bought a couple dozen items from him and don't know the website. That's because it's under my "Favorites" and I just click. But thanks for the assist.

Great documentation on something I've been itching to try. I was really concerned about the hinge cut outs, so I'm relieved the come pre-cut.

Here's a strange question...has anyone thought about running a single stripe along the lower body, between the wheel wells? Is that even possible?

This is really helpful. I notice you have a front plate. I just brought my car back from Wisconsin and have no front plate (I live in Ohio too). Where can I get a front plate holder?

Thanks,

JC

Front license plate

Hi Mini world,

I just bought an '06 mini-Cooper and live in Ohio, a two-license state. My Mini has no front plate holder. I've read the blogs about the "two dimples in the bumper, but there doesn't seem to be any.
I like the threaded machine screws for the rear plate. Does anyone know if there is a kit available for a front plate?
Thanks,
I'm looking forward to this new adventure.
JC

Quick question regarding the vinyl install: If the edges start to peel off(from improper installation or otherwise) and won't stay on(the rest of the body is perfectly situated), is there something you can apply to make just the edges sticky again?

And what did you use to cut the vinyl? I tried using a surgical blade with scalpel handle and it was a PITA to cut, real tough
