How to install OEM Bi-xenon 25w retrofit kit
This is a simple guide for people who wants to upgrade their standard halogen headlight to the OEM Bi-xenon 25w retrofit kit. It is for R56 Mini Cooper. My car is a 2011 R56 LCI Canadian Spec. This kit is for R56 LCI.
This is a guide for referencing only, I am not liable for anything.
Parts:
Xenon Headlight Titanium Gray 25 W - Left part # 63102347698
Xenon Headlight Titanium Gray 25 W - Right Part # 63102347700
Removing headlight:
There are 4 bolts securing the headlight, removing them all, unplug the headlight and take it out. I have trouble with the lower one because it seized, so I have to drill it out.
Putting headlight:
Put the new bi-xenon headlight on, secure the 4 bolts.
Programming:
It is suggestive that you go to the dealer and do it. But if you don't want to. I've spend a few hours figuring out how, but the actual process is less than 10 minutes.
You first need a program like NCS Expert to do this.
1. Add $522 VO to CAS and FRM module and default car.
2. Thanks to http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...non-Headlights. Car now thinks it is on bixenon wiring configuration for the headlight pin connector. So need to tell the car it is using the stock 3 pin connector for halogen , so need to code PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON in FRM module from wert_02 to wert_01, wert_01. Now flash to pass works. Also, high beam stays on!!!!!!!
PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON
wert_01
wert_01
3. Might want to disable auto leveling because you don't have it and headlight cleaning.
I hope this is helpful. Sorry if this is too short. Email me if you have questions or comments.
Thank you

I just want to add to this post that I successfully installed these headlights on a pre LCI Cooper S and ended up with the exact same coding as above to get mine fully working. The only difference (if I recall correctly) is that for my 2008, PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON was originally set to wert_01 instead of wert_02. This could be because I previously had $522 in my vehicle order string, so I don't think it's a big deal. I still ended up with PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON being wert_01, wert_01 though.
Here is my posting with a little more detail about what values I changed to disable the auto leveling feature: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...2-post112.html

Hi wai_jai268, ragingMINI,
Have you considered modifying PWM_ANSTEUERUNG_AL (as filipe210 seems to have done) instead of modifying PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON and (optionally) AUTO_LWR_ENABLE/DYNAM_LWR_ENABLE?

Hello everybody, i need some help
I am french and i have countryman R60 with halogen headlight.
I have bought retrofit xenon 25w for r56 and two xenon headlight for R60. I have changed everything in the xenon headlight and i have now two xenon headlight r60 with retrofit xenon 25w inside.
I want to code the car now but i have several problems.
I have add option $522: it is ok
i don't understood how to code PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON in FRM module.
I put just once wert_01 or i add like it is written wert_01, wert_01. or
wert_01
wert_01
I have tried wert_01, wert_01 but i have had an error coapy 1142 psw invalid.
Can i have some help.
Thanks a lot
Best regards

wai_jai268, ragingMINI,
Got the lights and am about to go through with this... One more question:
> 1. Add $522 VO to CAS and FRM module and default car.
What does "default car" mean?
I've modified CAS and CHAMP before (following instructions in "Guide to Mini Cooper Coding II.pdf"), but am not entirely sure what is meant here...
Thanks,
Jaka

Another report of success!
Figured out what "defaulting" is (reset module to default by using Expert profile and just write to the module). I did not default all modules, just FRM and CAS.
I had to upgrade to EDIABAS 7.2.0 (from 6.something) or I would get the "BEST" error.
I also had to upgrade to v46 daten (from v45) or I would get Invalid VIN.
gribouille1210, I put wert_01 on two lines
PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON
<tab>wert_01
<tab>wert_01
Though I'm not sure if this is really needed. Perhaps once is enough. A quick glance over the other settings shows that none have the same value repeated twice. I would have to read the module back out to see if it appears only once or twice in the trace file, to see if it matters.

Can you get them cheaper anywhere?
http://www.shopminiusa.com/PRODUCT/1...NON-HEADLIGHTS
I can't believe someone wrote "a cost effective way" with a straight face.
$1000 for the two. Dayum.

Mini r56 LCI 25w xenon retrofit
Hi there, really useful post thank you guys. So I bought these lights from a BMW dealer, inspired by this post to do a DIY !
I've done the retrofit, and after much frustration figured out how to install NCS Expert / INPA and actually started to code the car (r56 LCI diesel) !!!
I added $522 VO to CAS and FRM modules.
I used the MAN file to make changes to the FRM module re cold and warm light monitoring, and auto levelling - these go through fine.
The problem I have is that I can't make the change :
PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON
wert_01
wert_01
It was already on wert_01 in the original TRC file from the FRM and whilst I can add another wert_01 on the line below in the MAN file, when I code it back to the FRM it doesn't take and stays as :
PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON
wert_01
I think I'm on v46 datens.
Please help !!!

hello, somebody help us. i also did the rotrofit, added $522 defaulted frm and cas, after that modified AUTO_LWR_ENABLE and DYNAM_LWR_ENABLE to disable auto leveling and after deactivating the dynam_lwr_enable i realized that manual vertical aim of the headlights reactivated. but i still have the problem that xenon do not go to bixenon stage, and i can not write 2 rows for wert_01, each time i write to the frm, after i reread it it comes back to wert_01 written only once. xenon stays on but when i flash nothing happens only in the instrument cluster shows high beam

Mini 25w OEM xenon retrofit
Blurrrache : I managed to get the retrofit working on my 2011 R56.
Whilst helpful, coding as the forum suggested earlier in the post didn’t work for my car.
I couldn’t code the ‘wert_01’ twice (on two separate lines) as suggested, and whilst the xenons would work with ignition on, with the engine started they strobed/ flickered.
I placed a post on the Mini2 forum but no one replied so I guess I was going solo on this one.
However, further research on other BMW forums led me to conclude that it was the PWM settings which caused the flicker but I still didn’t know which ones to adjust. (NB the PWM settings deal with the voltage regulation/reduction in modern cars, taking the place of rheostats. Unlike Halogen, Xenons need constant voltage, hence PWM modulation appeared to be causing the issue – but where?)
So I loaded NCS Dummy and looked at the FRM module trace file PSW_FSW.TRC (I could see from NCS Expert that the FRM Module reference in my car something like “FRM3_r56.c08” and selecting this in NCS dummy allowed me to check and reference almost each option).
From NCS Expert the default PWM setting for PWM_FL_BEI_BIXENON was ‘Wert_02’ - I could change it only the once to 'Wert_01'. When I did this I studied the values listed in NCS Dummy under the ‘Wert_01’ selection and wrote them down (it was something like 100% and 00,FF’)
I then identified the other areas of the TRC file relating to PWM settings for Low beam and High Beams only. I then selected the ‘wert’ options in these settings that most closely resembled the selection for the PWM_Bixenon setting above (100% 00,FF).
I then coded these settings to the car and it worked - the xenons are now fully functional, high and low beams OK, with no flickering on engine start !
One final point - make sure you keep the manual levelling enabled to allow vertical adjustment of the headlight beam (assuming you've not retrofitted auto levelling).

hello, and thanks for replying,. I managed to make them work perfectly by moving the pin from the frm pin 41 connector x14260 to pin 4 same connector and in pwm_bixenon wert_1 written only once.
Right now cas and frm has $522 option, both module reseted, pwm_bixenon wert_01, and rewired at the headlight connector from pin 6 to pin 5 both headlights and at the other side at frm module both wires(yellow with blue stripe) get together into pin 4 at the x14260 connector. i thing now all i need to do is to disable the check light for highbeam.

HELP...Bi-Z questions
I have 2009 s (pre LCI):
I'm looking at this 25W retrokit.
Can anyone direct me to the NCS Expert I would need to download. It would be my first time playing with programming
I'd rather not overspend for OBD2 cable so any recommendations on a good, reasonably priced one?
I've read alot of threads but if any can give any info I'd appreciate
I want to make sure they don't strobe, Hi-LOW and flash to pass works and no bulb out warnings.
Would Lamin X be a good idea for protection on this investment?

Just an update, looks like we are the last to have these in the USA. Once we cant get them anymore they will be gone.
