BTW, a turkey baster works well for the removal of your old brake fluid. Make sure to throw it away afterwards. Brake fluid is extremely corrosive. Wouldn't want to ruin your Thanksgiving

Thanks for the quick response! I have been trying to find out how to remove the push pin. There's not much room to work under the dash and doing it without being able to see it is madening.

Unless you're removing your brake booster also, all of your work for the master cylinder removal is under your hood.

How about some info on replacing the serpentine belt tensioner (not just the belt) on a 2003 R50?

Start by removing the belt then raise your front end and support with jack stands.
Remove your right inner fender liner.
From inside underneith you will be able to access the bolts (13mm if i remember correctly)that hold the tensioner assembly on. Remove them and work the tensioner out from the bottom. It takes a lot of wiggling but it will come out.
Re-installation is opposite of removal.

* A ratcheting open/closed end wrench makes this job a lot easier!

Thanks, CR. I thought one had to have the car on stands and remove liner already just to have room to remove the belt. Either way, the job doesn't sound bad at all. Thanks again!

Ok, I got them off.

Hey guys. I'm new here and Started to replace my clutch and found that my lower outer balljoints are bad. I can't find a writeup anywhere that says how to remove these. I unbolted the two bolts. But they just wont budge. Is there a DIY on this anywhere? I searched everywhere.

Thanks in advance

Just completed the job and posted a "How To" on NAM for replacing the belt tensioner. The compression pin was the fly in the ointment.

How to remove the steering stops/limiters that MINI installs when you get 18" wheels.

I'm swapping my 18s for some 17s and I would love to improve the turning radius while I'm at it. Even just a picture or two pointing out where they're located and exactly which part they are would be a huge help!

This will point you in the right direction:

Do note ; this is for a Gen2 (R56) version not a Gen1 (R53)

I have an R53. I've seen that PDF, but was hoping for some pictures of where it's located and what it actually looks like on the car.

I haven't seen any information on motor mount replacement (upper passenger side) on a R53. This seems to be a common replacement could someone post a guide for this procedure?
Thanks

Dashboard LED replacement 1st generation Mini

This thread is for first generation mini's (up to 2006)

I've spent many hours over the past few days looking and have seen some amazing interior lighting, but VERY few part numbers so that I can order the LEDs and install them myself. In fact the only part numbers I found were from over ten years ago...

If you live in the UK you are in luck because there is NewMINIStuff.com for parts and essentialmini.co.uk where someone named Si seems to do an excellent and rather inexpensive for people, and I found several other resources as well for those in the UK.

I however live in the US, so all of what I found that currently sell stuff is useless to me.

Here are some great pictured instructions on how to take the tachometer and speedometer apart to install the new LEDs and gage faces: search at northamericanmotoring.com for interior-exterior-replacing-speedo-and-tach-gauge-faces-with-pics

There seems to be two suppliers of the gage faces 1. Factory stye with different colors: detroittuned.com 2. and a clean variation: outmotoring.com also in diferent colors.

So two questions

1.) Does anyone know of any other Gage face suppliers?

2.) Does anyone know which LED part numbers would fit for the surface mount LEDs for under the dash, as well as LEDs that can be used for the bulbs inside the cabin (Overhead lights etc).

Thank you

Does anyone know if there is a way to not have to press the clutch in while starting the engine?
