Hi guys, I am from Hong Kong, and I drove on the right hand side lol
I did the channel swap on the female plug according to the diagram here, same as some members here, both front and rear, left and right have been swapped. Bass has improved a lot, although left and right has been swapped, but I dun think it is a big deal for music (not for movies).
Anyway, anyone have another wiring diagram available for situation like this?

the wiring diagrams have left and right spelled out. just swap the left and right but keep the front and back the same.

while I was changing the front speaker today, I take a look at the color of the speaker wire. The front left is actually the front right according to the diagram here, and front right is actually the front left. So the female side after swapped should be something like this instead....

I had the problem of swapped L and R so I modified a previous posts diagram that might help some people with the same issue
The black text on the far right denotes the correct colour wires, hopefully it makes some sense and some find it useful.
I am no electrician or gear person, but I decided to try this today. Worst case, no stereo? Ha!
I will say it took me a while to getting the wires out until I realized I had skipped a step. There are two plastic housings, and without removing the inner housing (translucent white) from the outer one (solid white) it was becoming frustrating as none of the tools mentioned here were popping out the wires. After some reexamining of the post, I popped the inner housing out and slid it out of the way up the wiring harness, and then I could pull out the wires with needle nosed pliers, carefully of course, as the wiring is fragile (and 13 years old on my MINI). After that likely misreading of the original post on this, things went along smoothly. After rewiring and reattaching all the other pieces of trim and door moulding I was left to see if I still had any sound at all. Like I said, my skills reside elsewhere...
Success! And the radio, with stock speakers all around, sounds amazingly better. Seriously so. Sure, new speakers and an amp or two would be significant audio improvements, but this cost me nothing, and the aforementioned upgrades would cost me in the hundreds, and exceed my technical acumen.
Suffice it to say, for the unskilled like myself, this is a great sound improvement for no cost, merely your time, sweat, and maybe some frustration.

Not just. There are some high current wires going through the connector. If they are hurt, replaced with thinner wires or their pins not crimped right, this (and resulting fire) may happen: My x9331 Harness Failed!
I'd wish that that thread is linked to at the beginning of this one.
I made sure to be careful when removing each wire, and I would never have tried replacing any original wiring if I damaged one or more of them attempting this project. As I noted in my post, I am rather unskilled (and OK with that, 100%) so unless something works exactly like a NAM video/post describes, I would stop and just be OK with failing. I see people here doing amazing things to their MINIs, many with skills I will never acquire, some with their fingers crossed everything turns out OK. I can't afford to take those chances with my only car, but it is cool to read about the things MINI owners do.
The link you attached is an example of what someone should never do (make OEM changes without the requisite knowledge base) so while I sympathize with them, this can be the result if you're not doing things properly.
Thank you for this thread, very useful and plenty of informations. I recently bought a R55 Clubman Bond Street with plenty of options like Visual Boost with Nav and Bluetooth but unfortunately Harman Kardon was missing.
I came across a set of cheap HK A pillars and wondered if I could possibly plug them to the existing wiring and swap the front/rear speakers for deeper sound. After reading the whole thread, I learned the following (correct me if I'm wrong):
-R55s have different sound settings (no 100Hz filter on the front?)
-Channel swapping on LCI models is a less dramatic improvement than before LCI.
-Swapping channels means Bluetooth calls may be less audible as they stream in the rear speakers.
-many LCI owners seem to experience a Left/Right inversion when following the tutorial.
-popping out the connector pins is a bit tricky, and they might come loose or break during the process.
Knowing that I have already purchased the HK Pillars, and fitted them, what would you do? Does that worth the risks and hassle doing it?
Thanks in advance!
Thank you for your precious reply. After a bit of thinking, on 2nd gen it made much more sense because the rear speaker were bigger. But for my case where I own a Clubman F54, my speakers are the same, front and rear. So, not as meaningful at most.
