Speaker Cutting In and Out

Hello,

I performed the X9331 swap last summer and never had an issue until recently. Now my right front speaker cuts in and out and usually the only way to get it playing sound again is if I turn up the volume real high.

When it stops working, if I put the fader and balancer over to just the right front speaker, I get absolutely nothing. It comes and goes on it's own - even if the car is not even moving.

Any ideas? If I take it into the dealer will they say my warranty is void due to the X9331 swap?

Thanks in advance!

The pin/socket connection may be loose at the X9331. Did you use the proper tool to remove it? Are you getting any static-y crackling at any time?

Check the X9331 connection first. If that isn't it, then you can always reverse the swap and take it in to your dealer. Technically, to deny coverage, the dealer would have to be able to prove that what you did with the X9331 caused whatever issue it is you are having. If you swapped the correct wires (and they aren't loose) then there is nothing you did that would be an issue.

If it isn't a loose connection at the X9331, it could be a range of other possibilities. Anything from a dying output BTL in the headunit, to an issue with the speaker.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I'll check the wire on the connector. I didn't have a molex removal tool, so I think I just used a small screwdriver at the time.

Whew, that's tough...those things are tough enough to get out in one piece with the proper tool. If you used a screwdriver, that would be the primary suspect in my opinion. Good luck with it, let us know how you make out.

No I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot the problem yet.

Did you fix yours? What was the cause?
