[For Sale] 1965 Austin Mini

Hi folks,
I've got a 1965 Austin Mini for sale. It's a 65, but the car is a MKIII (most stuff is from a '71).

Some of you may have seen the car already. It's red with a white roof and white bonnet stripes. The roof also has a Union Jack decal on it. Here are some details:

Year: 1965 (but body is a 71)
Engine: 998cc. 1.25" SU carb. Should be getting a 1.5" soon along with an LCB (Long Center Breech) exhaust manifold.
Transmission: 4 Speed manual.
Wheels / Tires: 10" x 6" ROH "Contessa" wheels in (?) Anthracite. Brand new Yokohama A008s. Less than 200 miles on them.
Interior: Brown vinyl. Two seats up front, a bench in the back. Car is Right Hand Drive.
License Plate: MYMINI (You wouldn't believe how many people have offered to buy just the plates!)
(edit) Asking Price: $11,000 obo

The car isn't perfect, but it's in the best shape of the 3 cars I currently have. Some bubbling under the paint behind the driver's door, but a buddy of mine who works in the insurance industry said that it's only under the paint and isn't rusted through.

The car also has a cherry bomb in place of the stamped muffler box that came from the factory. It's a wee bit... louder than stock. Nice deep tone though - no coffee can exhaust sound from this little one!

I have attached a picture from the 2003 Spring Fling where we parked my Mini next to a new MINI. The old one is half the weight, two feet shorter, a foot narrower, and I believe 8 inches lower in height...yet fits 4 adults! (Whenever we went anywhere in the '02 Cooper S we could only take one extra person.)

I will try to get more pictures of the car up later today (tonight). I have to dig through my picture folders to find where I put 'em all.

In case anyone is wondering, I'm selling the '71 and have already sold the '64 S. I'm keeping the 66 S, and it will be undergoing a restoration hopefully very soon!

-Andy

19 October - edited price. Shoudla struck when I posted it! Even at 11,000 it's a bargain. I haven't seen a Mini in the islands for that price in the condition it's in. I'll even throw in a set of Cooper S 7.5" disc brakes ($500+) with the car.

Wait a minute! Did you get ANOTHER Mini? I remember the 2 red ones and the green one, so that makes 3. And now you're selling a 65. So how's the 924 working out?

Well...

We currently have the 64 S (the green one), the '65 ('71 - the one that is listed here) and a 1966 Austin Cooper S. Barry & Teresa have seen it. It's in semi-rough condition, but it's a real MK I S... and the heritage certificate says it was originally Tartan Red with a Black roof - one of my all time favorite combinations.

The 924S is doin great now that I got the fuel system problems sorted out. Had a leaky line up at the front of the car and the back. It's a wonder that sucker didn't fireball on me! Now that it's sorted the car runs great though. Going to have to offload that as well... insurance costs are too high with 4,000 vehicles at the house.

Don't forget, I saw the car, too! I was at the shop when we worked on Barry's brakes and I didn't close off the bleeder valve all the way! Aah, so the 65 is a 71 or something like that. Now I get it!

Ah - that's right. I forgot that you showed up.
Is Barry's Innocenti running ?

(edit) Here are a couple more pictures.

Price reduced. $8,000 firm. I'll be putting a 1.5" SU Carb on and a "Long Center Breech" exhaust manifold to help extract a wee bit more power from the stock engine. I will throw in a set of Cooper S 7.5" disc brakes (normally at least $500) in the deal.

This is a really fun car, and I'd love to see it stay in Hawaii and go to someone who loves Minis of all types.

(insert sound of crickets here)

Jeez... there seemed to be a LOT of interest back a year or so ago. Now nobody wants it?

(edit) - again, the reason I'm doing this is not cause I want to get rid of all the minis... selling this Mini will help to finance the restoration of my 66 Cooper S wich will then be seen regularly at SCCA events / Spring Flings / Aloha 500s. Heh... a large chunk of the selling price is going to go towards engine work I think. Eaton M45 supercharger anyone? Muhahahah... tiny mini go fast.

What a difference a year makes! One year ago, the MINI was out for only 1.5 years and was still a relatively rare sight on the road. As such, people started to "import" the classic Mini from all over the world. I guess you need to strike while the iron is hot!

Now, the MINI is an everyday car as you see lots of them on the road. I know if I head into town, I can count on seeing at least a half dozen MINIs on the road. I guess interest in all things MINI and Mini has waned as the car is no longer the "new kid on the block" and the uniqueness of the vehicle has worn off on the general public.

However, there is one person that is interested in your Mini as I received an inquiry about it today.

I'd hesitate to say the market has gone cold on the classic Mini. I'm leaning more towards "not advertising in the right area". I gotta tidy up a few things, maybe swap out a carb + exhaust and then I'll start driving it around with for sale signs. Used to get TONS of people wanting to buy it on the spot.

You too can be the HS terror at SCCA with this Mini. Err, not that I ever was...but if I could drive I woulda been!

I saw one just like yours in south Lousiana about a week ago - first time I ever saw one on the road.

I don't have that kind of cash laying around, but man that was a sweet looking car. I can't imagine that more people aren't interested.

They are tons of fun. If my exhaust mount hadn't decided to give up the fight after 30+ years I'd be driving it today. I have the new mount on my desk...just haven't found the time to get out there and put 'er on.

It's a hard car to drive if you need to get somewhere quick. Everyone wants to talk to you about it... 99% of the people "had a roommate in college who used to race one"

If I had the money to keep both of 'em I would. I want to concentrate on my 66 Cooper S though. There's a guy that is selling a kit in the UK which uses the same Eaton M45 supercharger as the New MINI ... muhahaha. She'll keep up with a stock MINI Cooper S after I'm done - maybe a wee bit faster. At that point though I'd be probably pretty close to the max power one can put down through 165/70 r 10s.

Not to mention the Mini gearbox! I was also eyeing that kit for my Mini but have decided to move on from classic Minis for a while. I've got my classic up for sale at the moment.

Would this be the same rick from Minimania?

Probably a *lot* easier to sell your car over there in California than it is in Hawaii. Then again, I may not be advertising in the right spots.
