*******[HI] 05/29 Autocross Caravan*******

Would anyone want to drive over to autocross (participate/spectate/volunteer) come Saturday morning with me? If so, just e-mail me (erik_tanaka@hotmail.com). We could meet in Kapolei... If not, I'll see you all there

This week I was going to go early (pack up my MINI tonight with lots of junk (I mean parts)) to the HRP about 8am to help setup the cones and help with the rebuilding of the tire wall near the chicane turn.

Does anyone know which groups (stock classes HS or GS) run in the morning and which in the afternoon?
I need to know for planning purposes.

Also on monday 5/31 at HRP is a track and tune day with limited track time for $50 for SCCA members with a qualified helmet and tech inspection.

This week the stock classes are in the second group in the morning and you'd have to volunteer to work the first group so you'd need to come early about 830am to 845am is safe. You'll need a SCCA race membership number which you can get if you call today and ask for the number. This allows for a lower fee for the day by about $8 per outing. The membership is about $80 per year and the cost for non members per event is about $25.

Helmets can be found at motorcycle supply stores like cyclecity for HONDA off Nimitz, the harley parts shop off Nimitz or at the Pfleuger Yamaha shop in waipahu. HJC basic models start from about $149.
"Helmets must meet at least Snell 90 (M or SA) or ANSI Z90.1. " A higher year rating is better like Snell 2000.
Take everything not fastened down out of your MINI. No mats or stuff that can fly around and hurt you.
Hope to see your there. Stock MC runs in H-stock, stock MCS runs in G-stock.
To be stock class you can only have a drop in air filter, no aftermarket rear swaybar, no aftermarket springs, stock wheel rim sizes with offset within 0.25" more or less, DOT tires, and any cat-back exhaust.

For May 31. I got one of the slots. Meet there at 1230 and run till about 4pm. See you there erik.

On 5/31 at HRP we have a SCCA track and tune from 1230 where street cars are teched and for $50 those who have signed up will be allowed on the track without instructors for two short sessions to allow for adjustments to be made to suspension or wheels for tuning purposes. You have to be a SCCA member and bring your helmet.

For more info on SCCA solo II events see

==>Hi, John! Hey, DaKineMINI was worried about you back in late February (Dirk's the coolest, man!). I was stoked/relieved to see your post  . Instead of forkin' over 100.00/150.00/200.00, it might be a good idea to just bring a cloth (for your head) & use a loaner helmet. Or, buy a skull cap at a local motorcycle shop for 5.00 or so. Just my 0.02. Same for the awesome keikileemeister  . Once again --> to confirm, just e-mail me & I'll see you two at the Kapolei Wendy's @ 8:45 a.m. Otherwise, I'll see you two there at 9:00. TGIF

John,
Call the national number if you can. It's in Kansas City so hurry. (800)-770-2055 and be sure to ask for your membership number over the phone which you will need when you sign in tomorrow morning.

Here is a sample of the application form. Dues appear to be $70 but they can tell you what they are.
Hawaii is region number 00046.

Wow, you lucked out bigtime.

>>any other clothing issues? long pants, or are shorts ok?

Drink lots of water from today. Bring water and a snack or lunch if you like. You will be running most likely at the end of the day because if you are a novice running for the first time you'll need an instructor which are available at the end of the day in the last round or two. You can still tech your car in the morning and watch.

Wear shoes and comfortable clothes. Cotton fabrics and long pants. Hat and dark eye glasses to keep cool and spare your eyes. It's pretty sunny out there. Make sure you tires are inflated and you can adjust tire pressure as needed.
You can talk to erik, angel or mini-t about what pressure to use for G-stock class.

Minihune,

Are you sure about the Snell 90 eligibility? I thougt eligibility was only for 10 years? That would make eligible helmets Snell 95 and Snell 00. At least that's what we go by at CCA.

Congrats on getting one of the coveted spots for track day. From my understanding, there were only 12 slots available. Are you bringing the Maxima? j/k

Minihune,

You better check with SCCA as I have the list of drivers for May 31 and you are not on it! However, Erik808 and his buddy DevilBoy are on that list along with CCH VP Woody Williams.

It makes more sense that it should be at least Snell 95 but I got that from posted regional rules at one of the SCCA sites. It might be out of date. My helmet is only a year old and has the Snell 2000 sticker.

Edit: According to http://www.sccahawaii.org/news.html
"For 2003, helmets must have at least Snell 1990 rating." This agrees with the info from the other site I found.

Maxima? Nope.
Both my cars are track ready just in case because I want to go no matter what.
New tires for both. New exhaust, premium gas, polished body for the old maxima- it looks good. But it is time for the MINI to test out some things. I'll pack the both Yokohama ES100s and Kumho Victoracer V700s this weekend. Hope it doesn't rain. It is does then I'll use the Yokohamas.

I know, I saw the list as it was emailed to me today on request and yes I am the 13th warrior so to speak.
It is the stealth spot and OK'd by Ed K. this morning after Erik alerted me that there were only 12 spots.

I had requested to be on the list for the May 2nd track day test and tune but my MCS was in the shop at that time so it didn't materialize.

Well, how did the autox caravan go? Did anyone run autox? I woke up a little late from my beauty sleep so I did not make it!

Sorry we missed you. Congrats to Erik808 for a 2nd last month in STS.

bgrpph and I ran in SM with Erik808 in STS.
Then Arioch (first time) and mini-t (in 23-STS) ran in G-stock. Not sure why mini-t was not in STS since the car was the same as when Erik was driving it.

Despite some sprinkles in the morning and some full on rain after lunch we all did well and had a safe day.
Lots of spin outs as the counter clockwise course was wide open with long stretches and a few tight corners and one slalom. Several cars ended up in the grass in the turn one area. I gave them plenty of room.

The Kumho victoracers worked great as did the Quaife LSD. I need more skill. I'm working on that. I might have scared a few cones in the slalom but didn't manage to topple any.

mini-t most likely requested to have her runs put into GS so she can keep her points for the season. I believe she intends to campaign a shared MCS in Solo 2.

I thought the runs are based not on the driver but on the vehicle. So an STS vehicle can run in STS or higher classes not stock classes unless they feel that H-stock is normally where an MC goes and G-stock would be a modified MC short of any internal mods but still STS-23 has H-sport springs, rear swaybar and the relative advantage of 15" holie rims with Falken Azenis 205/50-15 tires. But a G-stock MCS would have a lot more HP as well as more weight and better than MC suspension unless it was an MC with SS+.

I guess it is pretty close. What if mini-t was at the wheel in an SM class MCS then what class would she be in?
