I've seen various references to it, but I don't recall seeing a date/time for it. FYI, if it is next Sunday, I can't make it. I will be on the Big Island.

Angel,

Feb 8th would have been our normal 2nd sunday of the month date for an event. However this month there is an autocross going on at Hawaii Raceway park.

If we do something next week then you'll be off island.

We are also looking at the 28th for an event.

Don't the road a bit don't forget that on May 8th we have the Spring Fling to sign up for.

kbseto,

OK, several motorers are busy next sunday so how about saving the last sunday in Feb for a cruise.
Think about where you want to go- maybe somewhere that takes us to nice places to eat. Meet at the dealership at about 9am and leave at 930am? An early start may help us finish early and cut down on the traffic around lunch time.

I think this is a MoH-less event. Think of it more of the 1st official 808 Motoring event. 900 on the 22nd sounds good to me. Resturant suggestions? I'm a fan of Cholo's on the North Shore, or Breakers.

An event without Mini Of Hawaii? Sounds like a plan. Wouldn't want to "poison" the Mini pool, now would we, Mini T?

Gotta throw on the fuel pump on the '71...hopefully I can have that done and bring 'er out for folks to check out (and buy?).

Too bad that MoH are turning out to be just another collection of typical car dealer a-holes.

cool! i think it would be great to have events every 1-2 months and everyone is more than welcome to use 808-motoring to publish events, run polls, etc! it's YOUR group so let's use it!

for the 2nd official 808-motoring event, we can do a mini r/c car rally  it should be a lot of fun! we have been working on the track and it's really close to completion -- the track is complete, the guard rails are up, the mountains and trees make it look more real and we even have a timer! still need to add the finishing touches (i.e., parking lot)....and then we're off!

<opinion> Why the heck does everyone like Cholo's so much? Much better Mexican food elsewhere on the island </opinion>

Crud... if it's a Sunday I won't be able to attend. I'll be there in spirit though!

An idea.
Maybe meet at Magic island parking lot at 9am.
A nice scenic place with lots of space.
Last sunday of the month.
Go 808.

minihune,

Good idea. Since it's a MOH-less event, we should not burden them and meet at MOH.

I'm in - let's motor!

affirmative. magic island is a good place to meet and get started. cruises are fun...maybe we can do a scavenger hunt cruise for a future event.

minihune -- you wanna start a sign-up on 808-motoring so you can plan accordingly? i'll try to get some complimentary door prizes

either last or 2nd to last weekend is good, i think.

yep, let's plan it so that we can stop by someplace with good grinds. and then dessert after.

mexican is cool. i gotta say though there's no mexican place in the islands that compares to those in west coast-cali side. i just gotta make sure i don't eat too much of those beans.

Amateurs! When you feel a little Mexican, head for Taco Bell!

If you're meeting at Magic Island, why not have a nice picnic or something. Meet at Hooters?

Edit: I do have a planned road rally if anyone is interested. Actually, it's just the sheets with the trivia stuff you need to know.

I am looking forward to this! When you folks do a big group run, does everyone use two-way radios (like the Motorola kind)? When we did our M3 runs in California we did this; especially, for V1 warnings (although I'll doubt we'd need this here).

keikilee -- i know how you feel! hopefully my car's a/c wont suddenly break on me again and make me hot, sweaty, and grouchy!

perhaps we should take a poll to see what day works best? seems like some saturdays and sundays work better than others...it would be nice to have a decent turnout. so far, it seems like the pulley party brought together the most MINI owners i've seen at once!

What if you guys did a Food Run/Rally. All you need to do is figure out places to pickup up certain foods and everyone gathers for a picnic at the end. Might be a little difficult as the food will get cold, but you could always do it for desserts. I also have a food warmer/cooler that can be plugged into your cigarette lighter.

Last Sunday of month is good for me and Sadie. How about La Mariana's? Gorgeous setting, and decent if not spectacular food. Prices are low too. We'd need to make a reservation, though. It's always popular, but especially on Sunday afternoons. I like it because they have lots of separate areas, where, if we got a little raucous, it wouldn't bother anyone.

For anyone who doesn't know the place, it's hidden off Sand Island Access Road, called officially The La Mariana Sailing Club (it has large sailboat anchorages) and is run by a gem of a woman who bought and saved every single tiki, blowfish lamp, polynesian-themed anything, tables, chairs, lamps, fishnet, float, etc. from every restaurant that closed on Oahu after Don the Beachcombers in the 1960s, refurbished them and stuck them all in one place. Off the beaten track and our Minis would look sweet parked in front.

Burgers are good and the eggs florentine will give you a cholesterol overload.

Based on our informal poll on 808-motoring it seems that saturday Feb 21st got the most positive responses.

What time would be good for everyone? Before or after lunch? Normally we would get together on a sunday when the traffic would be a bit better. Still it is no worse than sunday afternoon out on the roads.

Ideas?

I'm flexible concerning the day and the time. Whatever y'all decide for day/time/grinds is fine with me.
