Just came back from Costco and they had 12 16" x 16" towels for something like $8.79! I couldn't resist so I bought 2 packs of them.

Be careful on these and any towels you might get at Wal-Mart. They vary widely in quality and may mar your clearcoat.

Have you done the CD test? Try using your towel to rub on the data (music) side of an un-needed CD. If you see scratches afterward, these same scratches will happen in your clearcoat! This test is usually the best way to determine quality on towels.

Have you tried PakShak towels? They have great quality and decent prices. Nothing like what you found at Costco, but they're great quality and long-lasting. Be careful, because they'll give you a great deal if you don't watch out, and you'll wind up with 10 more towels than you meant to

Hope this helps! Yes, I'm THIS concerned about everyone's finish!

I have the PakShak towels as they are located here. Just did the CD test and no scratching at all. These towels are very thick and are thicker in comparison to the green 12 x 12 towels from PakShak.

You mean you can wash these towels? I thought you dispose of them once they get dirty?

keiki - it was just too tempting. I need more towels, just like I need more cars, more remote control cars...

Stick with PakShak. They also give specials to MCO customers (not sure how often they run them, but Ranney Pak will tell you by email). And, best part...you'll sleep better at night knowing that your hard-earned dollars haven't gone to Sam Walton and all his right-wing causes.

they had them here in san diego too. I bought a pack, but I noticed that they leave little fibers on the windshield. otherwise they seem good and absorb a hell of a lot of water.

I have been using the Costco Microfiber towels for a few months and love 'em. I wax with a damp one, dry my Mini off with dry ones, and they are fantastic cleaning glass.....especially with the SPRAYAWAY Costco aerosol glass cleaner. Just remember a few things;

-tear off all the white tags when you open the pack up

-Wash them in your wash machine by themselves. Do not mix with other towels you may have hanging around

-Do NOT use a fabric softner when you throw them in the dryer.

I actually use two leftover cat sand containers to store them. One for newly washed towels, the other for soiled ones ready for the wash machine. Once you try these you will never go back to using old bath towels etc.. They are that good!

Cool....that's awesome. I'll have to check it out. I need to go over to costco tomorrow anyways to pick up the buy-one-get-one-free 100 pack of CD-R's.

As for washing towels....I wash my pakshak ones after every use. I have ton of towels because washing them can be a huge pain. I hand wash mine separately....then hang to dry. They are so darn absorbent that once the soap gets into the towels, it's sooooo hard to wash out (any soap residue can cause the towels to not feel as soft). I notice a huge difference in the quality and longevity of the towels when handwashed in comparison with maching washing and drying.

Just cleaned the purple beast with the new towels and they scratched the heck out of my car!

Just kidding! They are just as good as the other towels I use!

I checked out these towels....they are awesome! They are NOT like the pakshak ones that you folks (Beast, Kohu`ulaMINI, kbseto, ghui, et.al) bought before, BUT, they are like the new ones that the pakshak came out with recently. Same color and all. both the pakshak and costco towels look and feel great. I've only tried the pakshak ones, so I can't compare, but I would expect the costco ones do the same quality job, at a much lower price. I'll bring the new pakshak towel to the next mini and a movie if I remember.

i havent fallen for microfiber yet so someone convince me that it's the way to go. i have used it for my interior b/c there's nothing to scratch inside my car but otherwise i use 100% high quality cotton towels. isn't microfiber a mixture of cotton and polyester? and doesnt polyester scratch? but maybe the "microfiber-ness" eliminates the scratch factor? hmmmmmm....

who wants to donate a towel to me? and who's car can i test it on ?

I did an unscientific test of the Costco microfiber towel. I used my
black Saab as subject because the black will show more imperfection.
The Costco towel dries and cleans as good as the pakshak. Then I used
it to compare with my 100% cotton towel to buff the wax off (Zaino
Z2). I divided the car in halves, buff one half with Costco towel and
the other with 100% cotton. To my surprise, it took 3 times as long to
buff with the Costco towel than my 100% cotton towel. I also felt
that I had to work harder to buff off the wax with the Costco towel.
There is no difference in shine between the two.

i always use 100% cotton towels for zaino and i won't change that  however, i may consider washing and drying my car with the donated microfiber towels
