I've decided that I hate my job...well, I take that back, I don't hate it....I love it, but it's going in a direction that I'm not happy with. So....I've been looking to leave. Got some offers...but I'm looking at exploring other opportunities. I've worked as an event coordinator and as admin assistants most of my working career (8 years). I have a AS in Accounting and a BS in Business Admin (undeclared minor in Marketing)....I don't know what I should do or where I should go. I want something different.....but am not willing to take a pay cut.

Any advice for me...A young and confused (and possibly stupid) employee? Where would you apply or what would you do if you were me? Help!!!! Too many jobs in the paper.....I don't know where to start!!!!

I hear they are hiring MAs at our dealership!
What a wild idea, Huh?

Or you can go into business for yourself?
Or you can run the business end of HelixWest-talk to mini-t.
Be creative.
Go ask the_Beastmaster

the corprision life sucks, I hear that. I'm planning on international studies (MBA) to help alleviate my mental anguish in the I/T hell...

Ya still gotta pay the bills, but on the same side of the coin- why be miserable, life is too short!

Yup...I'm in IT now...and it definitely is hell!

Oh well....I'm not completely happy with the 2 offers I got, so I'll keep looking. When that "picking opihi" or "sewing leis" or "playing Mah Jong at a retirement home" job comes along, I'll be diving head first right into it.

who knows what'll happen...I'm patient.

Keikilee - I agree with mini-t. Mechanics make good money, right? And an honest mechanic would have more work than she could handle.

Actually, with your business background, you ought to first get your ASE certification, then start a garage and use your ASE knowledge to keep the rest of the grease monkeys honest while you run things.

Ah, Keiki ... the possibilities!!

650+ MINIs running around out there on Hawaii roads all looking for a good place to do upgrades and custom work.
Before you know it many will pass the 36,000 mile mark- ask Erik808.

HelixWest! Not bad.

I saw Home Depot in Kapolei had a big hiring sign. Apply for the "Boss position"
Tell them you are tired of not being the Boss and need a change.

Hmmmm.....Home Depot, one of my favorite places to shop! I wish I could afford to work in retail. it looks so fun! My friend told me to apply at the Harley Davidson store at Ala Moana since I love street bikes so much....aparently they are looking for f/t sales people. but I can imagine I'll have to take a significant pay cut.

Maybe I should find a rich husband.....that's probably easier than finding the "perfect job."

Rich husband? You can hang around the BMW dealership. There must be someone there that would fit the bill.

I will keep looking around for opportunities. Tomorrow I will look in Hilo for you. Hope it doesn't rain.

how about the hotel/travel industry? i think if i didn't go in to physical therapy, i woulda been in the tourist business.

then while working in those 4-5 diamond hotels, you can find a very wealthy gentleman who's looking for a local hottie.

Hey kbseto!! I've been there and (had) one that with the hotel/travel industry. I worked for a Hotel chain as an Event coordinate for several years. I threw parties for our top clients. The industry is so unstable. After 9-11, me and a bunch of other non-profit producing folks got cut. They offered me my job back when the economy picked back up, but I wasn't interested.

We (have) no more 5 diamond hotels anymore.....pretty sad considering this is paradise!

Good idea, though, maybe I look at other careers that surround hotel and tourism....maybe i'll teach surfing!

Anyone hear of an org called Behavioral Counseling and Research Center? The job I interviewed for sounds too good to be true..... Been hunting for info on this place, and am coming up with very little. Please tell me you heard of them and about how wonderful they are!!!

Sorry for such an off-topic discussion......

Thanks for the info Beast....They do sound fishy to me.....I found the same info from dcca, bbb and doh. Tells me very little, and the lack of information scares me. I think I'll pass on this opp. Information should'nt be this hard to find if it were a good company, right?

Hey mini-t, that's so awesome that you worked in SPED. I always respected those teachers and aides. My son was in a SPED class for a year and a half...DOE didn't know what to do with him because he was so advanced...so they put him in SPED and gave him work from the grade above him. He started not having friends, so I put him back in mainstream to grow his interpersonal relationships....while running the risk of him falling prey to being bored again. Oh well...I think you'd do good working with kids! Do it!
